Feds (Andrew Card) Say Investigators Knew of Kerik Flaws
WASHINGTON -- White House investigators knew of many of the flaws that have surfaced since Bernard Kerik withdrew as the nominee to lead the Homeland Security Department, President Bush's chief of staff said Sunday.

"Many of the questions that have been raised in the media were well understood by the White House when they considered Bernie Kerik," Andrew Card said.

Kerik, 49, withdrew his name from consideration on Dec. 10, saying he had employed an illegal alien as a nanny and had failed to submit required Social Security payments.

Card did not say whether a decision was made that the former New York City police commissioner's shortcomings should be overlooked to approve his nomination. "It was Bernie Kerik's decision not to go forward," Card said.

1. No surprise here. They thought he'd fit right in with the rest of the
criminals.

11. Perfect, impeachthescoundrel
Except Card doesn't have the cute, impish look of Pee Wee. Otherwise, yep, that about sums it up.

They either had to admit they goofed up the vetting process or that they didn't care the guy smells to high heaven.

"I meant to do that."

Thanks for the laugh of my day.

3. That's one of the stupidest statements
that I have ever heard. We knew he was a frickin' rat, but we also knew that we'd get him in there. It was his decision to withdraw.

Doesn't say much about what they think of the Democrats' ability to fight back.

5. Demanding EKG's for the WH staff to see if there is any brain
activity that can at least be measured by modern medicine! Geez, "We put forward our nominee and who we knew to be morally bankrupt, financially indecent and with an active arrest warrant." In essence the WH is blowing raspberries and saying so what! :eyes:

6. Once again, when choosing between admiting a mistake
(which they might reasonable be expected to learn from) or instisting that they meant to nominate a fatally flawed candidate, they just can't admit that they did anything wrong.

Geez. Beyond words.

heavy dues to pay and I hope I see the day when the roof caves in on junior's crime cabal.

15. They thought their arrogance, hubris would win the day. ("In your face!")
And to tell the truth it hasn't hurt Bush or his advisors at all. No one is calling for his head and the media just acts as though it was a simple oversight. So they still win.

16. they knew about all of this.....?
my partner immediately said he thought all of this was a setup, to help tarnish the image of rudy, kerik and nyc.

i agree. it makes rudy's judgement questionable (ammo for 2008), makes kerik out be be a shady mobster and unconfirmable, and makes it look like nyc is run by a bunch or corrupt politicians. (ok, that last one isn't too much of a stretch....)

22. Very good point
I hadn't thought of that.

But I wish some of this would stick to the BFEE, as well. How long are the American people going to sit with blinders on when it comes to this administration? How many passes are they going to get? Maddening, isn't it!

18. This confirms that Giulianni was set up to take the fall
on this one. They knew Kerik had excessive baggage and they let Bush nominate him anyway knowing full well Giulianni would take the hit for recommending him.

Never too soon for the radical right wing to make pre-emptive strikes against someone thinking about running in 2008. Next target: John McCain. He's crazy, remember? Got that way as a Viet Nam POW. They'll expand on that theme real soon.
