Slain Soldiers' Kin Rip Robo-Rummy Letters [Rumsfeld]
Edited on Mon Dec-20-04 07:45 AM by the dogfish
<snip>

The grieving families of New York soldiers killed in Iraq blasted Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld yesterday for letting a machine sign his name to condolence letters they got in the mail.

The least he could have done was pick up a pen and sign the six-sentence letters himself, Brooklyn widow Miriam Behnke told the Daily News.

1. Americans get angry over the stupidest things
Nevermind the WAR he insisted on starting for no good reason whatsoever, it's the letters to family that could topple him.

F*cked up priorities

3. I'm not sure, but it amuses me, and that's good enough.
( actually it really was an instructional picture on how to get the water out of the lungs of a drowned cat. I have no further information.

9. I agree. I heard someone on Air America rant on and on about this issue
as the reason for throwing him out. And I thought WTF? This is NOTHING compared to the war crimes he has committed.

12. Ack, I just finished having that same conversation with a person.
They were livid about his not signing the letters and said how the Republicans are turning on him for it. I politely pointed out the charges from Germany, the torture that has taken place, the lack of a plan for Iraq and it's people, and how he had sent our soldiers over there to die w/o proper equipment. Then I asked them if they thought those things were worth getting mad about, too.

5. Dear Sir!
I'm writing to inform you that the Remington 700 series rifle actually is an effective weapon against your child.

Good Day,
Rumbo

8. It's probably more an "insult to injury" sort of thing, don't you think?
Maybe the families are still trying to hold on desperately to the belief that their loved ones didn't die in vain. Maybe they are suspecting it. But this, this insult, this show of contempt, that's definitely real and undeniable. It strikes me as a cry of anguish.

10. Well said ..... and it is somethng that after their loss of a loved one
affects them directly. Who can ever predict what the real tipping point will be ... what straw brings down the standing camel?

11. But wtat happens if
say, instead of 1-2 USTroops dying /day there are,
I don't know, more than 250 KIA.

What if, say 1500 have died so far attacking
Fallujah/

As a teacher, I know what it's like grading papers.
Just writing a sentence per paper is very time
consuming.

Maybe Rummy won't have time to do much of
anything else.

And what happens when people don't get that
personally signed paper but know their
child is gone?
