Conservatives to challenge Bush
Edited on Mon Dec-20-04 02:34 PM by RamboLiberal
http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2004-12-19-conservatives-bush_x.htm

Emboldened conservatives in Congress say they will oppose the White House next year on at least a half-dozen issues where they say President Bush has strayed from Republican values.

<snip>

The points of contention conservatives plan battles over:

•Immigration. Hard-liners oppose Bush's plan to give guest-worker status to illegal immigrants. They prefer to see amnesty laws tightened.

•Abortion. Conservatives such as Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Kan., say they'll oppose Supreme Court nominees friendly to abortion rights. Bush opposes a "litmus test" on nominees.

•Spending. Conservatives will seek deeper cuts in non-defense spending than Bush is expected to request.

•Education. Rep. Mike Pence, R-Ind., says Congress "must undo" Bush's signature No Child Left Behind Act, which sets national standards for education. He says Washington should stay out of schools.

Conservatives welcome 'new day'

http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2004-12-19-conservatives-new-day_x.htm

Rep. Mike Pence, R-Ind., was beaming over a cup of Capitol bean soup in the House of Representatives dining room one recent afternoon.

"The election was a mandate for conservative leadership in Washington," declared the new chairman of the House Republican Study Committee. The conservative caucus has grown from 40 members in the late 1990s to about 100 in the new Congress — not including five conservative former House members who are moving to the Senate.

Exit polls indicate social conservatives voted in about the same proportion as in 2000. But Pence and others credit them with President Bush's margin of victory over Democrat John Kerry and say the election was a referendum on conservative values.

"It's a new day," Pence said, "and a new Congress."

5. Here's my counterspin
•Immigration. You know are a Republican if you rant against illegal immigatrion but hire one to do you nanny duties or you groundskeeping.

•Abortion. You know you are a Republican if you rant against abortion but are rich enough to travel or a "right to choose" state or country "Just in case".

•Spending. You know you are a Republican if you rant against federal spending while insuring your district or state gets as much "Uncle Sugar" as you can write into the legislation.

•Education. You know you are a Republican if you rant about Federal control over education but then think Congress should regular the District of Columbia schools.

10. Jeebus. These people are truly, F-ing INSANE
They want to make things even WORSE than Bush claims to want to make them...but would doubtless like to make them.

I agree with another poster on this thread -- this is a staged Good Cop/Bad Cop game. I'm betting these beetle-browed idiots asked Bush for all these things and he basically said, "Sorry guys, I'd love to help ya out here, but I gotta be careful about creeping out the non-psycho repubs too much." With much mutual winking and know-what-I-mean-ing, it was set up. Bush could be safely "moderate" (the word will never be the same after such abuse) and they could push for the ultra-Nazi angle. He won't veto whatever they manage to get into legislation.

14. I blame the "supreme" court
for getting bush** in there in the first place and the "pro bush** all the time" media and especially right wing hate talk radio that is all you can hear in so much of the country.

They have kept the people brain washed (many of them willingly) so that these selfish, murdering bastards feel so empowered now.

It is very scary.:scared:
