Poll: Americans' Support for Iraq War Slipping
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A majority of Americans now say the war in Iraq (news - web sites) was not worth fighting, a view that has driven down the ratings of both President Bush (news - web sites) and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, according to an ABC News/Washington Post poll released on Monday.

Fifty-six percent of those questioned, a new high, agreed that the cost of the war outweighs the benefits and is not worth it. That a gain of seven percentage points from a poll conducted in July.

Fifty-seven percent said they disapprove of the way Bush is handling the situation in Iraq and 53 percent disapprove of the way Rumsfeld is handling his job, according to the survey.

However, 60 percent said the Iraqi elections scheduled for late January should go forward regardless of the security situation.

The poll also found that despite growing dissatisfaction with Iraq, most Americans, 58 percent, still say U.S. forces should remain there until order is restored.

1. 56% say war on Iraq wrong -but 48% voted against * Where's my calculator?
That does not add up. Unless you figure in the votes stolen by Karl Rove's gremlins.

3. Something is up.
Why in the World didn't people elect Kerry in mass numbers! AT least Kerry indicated that he would get them out as soon as he could!

5. the rationalizations are getting more & more twisted
"I was for the war. It was run badly though."

"If a few damn Americans would support the troops we wouldn't be in so much trouble!"

"It's the Iraqis' fault. Ungracious bastards!"

"Who could have known there would be so many INSURGENTS!"

"No matter what happens I support the president."

"You just WAIT! We'll find them dub-yem-dees..."

6. The numbers don't add up
On Nov. 2 Iraq didn't matter?

The polls that came out today also show * at 49% approval - lowest for a re-elected president this soon after the election. Basically, what we are to believe (if we accept the election) is that the public really didn't want him in the months leading up to the election, didn't want him after the election, but somehow on Nov.2 a majority of the people wanted to keep this guy around??

11. Which proves that the Election numbers were switched!
Bush "won" 51/49...but according to Clint Curtis, the program he designed flipped the votes from one candidate to another. (A theory Arnebeck also supports.) So I "buy" the above poll. "49" was Bush's true percentage of the Election votes (then and now), and Kerry took "51," but was credited with just 49...due to the 'flip.'

But wait...how could "Man of the Year" get just 49%, and still be MOY? Maybe we should ask them?

7. Amazing that 56% disapprove . . .
despite the rose colored version NBC, CNN and Fox feed the public every day.

The general public is turning but still they have only seen the tip of the iceberg.

10. that soldier questioning rumsfeld
there has been some negative reporting recently. i'm sure a big part of it is them trying to get their ratings up by getting the democrats/liberals to start watching again.

they will start whoring for the right wingers just in time for the 2006 elections though.

12. Something sure is up for the MSM to
be putting these kinds of ratings in the news. "Specially so soon after his "mandate".

13. What troops? We don't have enough for Iraq and Afghanistan.
Guess we could start recruiting them in diapers, or in utero. Oh, guess not. Shrub is pro-life (100,000 Iraqi dead, 1,300+ American dead)...and counting.
