Woman pleads guilty to threatening the president
http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/news/archive/2004/12/20/national2353EST0758.DTL

A woman pleaded guilty Monday to two counts of threatening President Bush.

A grand jury indicted Catherine M. Guertin, 24, in August and she was arrested the next month. Her guilty plea was entered as part of an agreement with federal prosecutors, according to court documents.

The threats were made in May while Guertin was living in Independence, the indictment says.

The woman allegedly threatened Bush by saying, "I want him gone" and "If I ever have a gun, I will shoot him between the eyes." She also allegedly wrote statements threatening the president.

The maximum penalty for conviction of threatening the president is five years in prison per count, said U.S. Assistant Attorney Kandice Wilcox.

Man arrested after bomb incident

By: April 26, 2004

CLINTON - A Clinton man has been charged with second-degree arson for allegedly throwing a homemade bomb into the Alliant Energy substation Friday night.
Oliver E. Guertin, 27, 2715 S. 18th St., is being held on $100,000 bond today in the Clinton County Jail, charged with throwing the device after earlier telling his wife that he wanted to do "what Columbine did" and that he wanted to "kill the whole world," according to officials.
According to an affidavit filed with Clinton County District Court officials, Clinton Police Officer Bill Greenwalt was traveling north in the 100 block of North Second Street about 8 p.m. Friday when he saw Guertin standing on the Alliant Energy property. Guertin was facing the privacy fence, which is secured with several large electronic transformers.
Greenwalt said that as he drove by Guertin, Guertin turned and watched as the squad car drove by. Greenwalt then saw Guertin throw a blue plastic grocery bag over the security fence.
Greenwalt said Guertin told him at the scene that the bag contained chemicals and later said the bag contained ordinary household products that could be used to make a bomb. Jeff Shatzer, a special agent with the Iowa State Marshal's Office, came to the scene and examined the bags. He found batteries wrapped in cloth, with the cloth soaked in an unknown liquid substance. Shatzer also found notebook paper, which also was saturated with an unknown liquid substance. A paper napkin was found protruding from the bag, which was burnt. Greenwalt wrote in the affidavit that Guertin admitted to igniting the bag before throwing it next to the electronic transformer.
Jim Saunders, with the State Fire Marshal's Office, said this morning the construction of the homemade device was basically harmless.
But during the investigation, another Clinton police officer interviewed Guertin's wife Catherine, who said her husband on Friday referred to wanting to do what Columbine did. "He didn't want to just kill children. He wanted to kill the whole world."
His wife said she saw Oliver making a bomb inside their home and that he told her he was going to the power plant to throw a bomb at the plant.
During a search at the residence that night, officers reportedly found the items used to manufacture the device thrown at Alliant. Also during that time, the area near the plant was immediately closed off by the Clinton Police Department for public safety and the Clinton Fire Department was dispatched to the scene.
"We were told that the device could have done some minor damage," Scott Drzycimski, Alliant Energy spokesman said today. "Our main focus was to plan ahead on possible ways to reroute power should it have been lost."
He said the company's officials were impressed with the quick action taken by the Clinton Police Department.
"The manager and our operations center were impressed by how quickly the police responded," Drzycimski said of the Friday night arrest. "And they were impressed at how quickly the suspect was apprehended."

7. well she wrote them?
sounds like she is exactly where she needs to be, in a place where she can't hurt anyone (look people threaten the president all the time, and 99% of them are investigated and ignored. the ones that can't be ignored are either serious, repeated or from people who are mentally er, unbalanced. this woman sure seems to fall into the last category.

people who shoot the President tend to be nuttier than fruitcakes, you'd kind of have to e. so lock her up and get her help for whatever if going on in that skull of hers.

9. She may well be
or she may not. Don't mean to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but of late, I've found myself looking over my shoulder. We're a fascist country now, and fascist countries go by different rules from democracies. It's time to catch up to reality and to watch our backs while staying faithful to the cause.

16. How times have changed!
In the mid-1990s, I saw the following bumper sticker several times:
At one end of the sticker is a picture of a rifle with a scope, at the other end is a picture of Bill Clinton. In between, in big, bold, type is the following: Where's Lee Harvey Oswald when you need him?

I'll bet dollars-to-doughnuts that you can't make such "jokes" about the Texas Dauphin.

18. I'm thankful that bush has excellent security
because I also want him to live a very long time.

The worst thing that could happen is an early death -- or Alzheimer's like RayGun who is now St. RayGun.

The evilness of bushie needs to be peeled away like the skin of an onion -- he is an old man and his name is removed from every public building and the name bush is the worst thing you can call another person.

The bush era -- the shame of a once great nation.

This woman and her husband in the news articles -- are people who are in need of a secure nut house. Bush is also an example of what happens when the nuts are treated like normal people and their mental illness is covered up by the media. Both cases (bush and this couple) are screaming for reviving large Institutions to treat the extreme wacked out nuts.

On the other hand -- these people are normal GOPigs -- if they had made treats against Clinton -- they would probably be elected as GOPs to some office.

20. yes, I want him to live a long healthy life
-- with his brain and senses intact, not getting Alzheimer's like Reagan) -- so he can watch us fixing all the damage he's done, and hear and see as even his former associates spurn him in public. And read the books and see the movies that are going to condemn his failure. And be there as his wife and grown-up daughters vote for the Democrats.

If he thought SNL was being unfair to him during the 2000 election -- that will be as abject toadying, compared to how he'll be viewed, I hope.

a Secret Service agent she'd like to shoot *, and that there were written threats in her journal. I hope to see more details coming out soon.
