10. Remember back in 1998... meme was that she was too liberal |
|
for California... she was going to be easily knocked off (by Matt Fong)... Oh how times have changed. And she didn't have to modify her stands on issues to become well respected and the safest seat in the senate. Not all Californians may agree with her stands - but they respect that she is willing to fight... indeed she forced the hands of oil cos in the late nineties when "refinery fires" were blamed for prices remaining very high for gas, long after they dropped around the country. She threatened serious investigations... per collusion among the players and attempts to drive indies out of business.. and shortly thereafter the prices dropped. She also publicized that while prices remained above 2.00 in nocal... there was a "Gas War" in socal (prices closer to a dollar) in what appeared to be a full frontal assault on indie gas station owners and was funded by keeping the prices high up north (eg they take a loss that small stations couldn't take - but it wasn't a loss because they made up the difference by keeping the prices exceptionally high up north.) Go Barbara!

5. Hurray! Now if Boxer can just "whip up" the other Dems... |
|
and get them all to refuse to certify this sham election, THAT would be an accomplishment.

8. Great move to prepare for the Social Security fight. |
|
Is there any chance that Barbara Boxer will oppose Herr Groper for governor in 2006 and thereby possibly position herself for a presidential run in 2012?

As far as I see, as Ca liberal wouldn't have a snowball's chance in hell of becoming prez. Especially a woman.
I think the only reason JK could even complete was b/c of his war record.
IMO, a liberal woman from a state hated by many in the midwest and south, at least at this point in time couldn't compete.
I think its more likely for her to strive to become the Democrat senate leader or the Ca gov. (as you mentioned), but what do I know?
She would make a fantastic prez though.

they did a pretty good job emasculating him over his war record. In my opinion, "they" will demonize ANYone running with some success. They did it to war hero Sen Cleland, and they did it to POW McCain. Thus, imo, we have to stop worrying about how a candidate will be attacked... and instead expect it (nothing will innoculate a dem) and strategize offensively, accordingly.
Boxer may be too liberal... but there are others who are quite liberal who might have a broader appeal. Sen Wyden from Oregan can cast a populist spell, for example. The trick is getting strategists who can on the one hand package the populist message and on the other hand expect and plan in advance full frontal assualts rather than assume safety on some point or another. We can not let our "fear" drive our choice of candidates.
