White House: Attack Shows Ongoing Issues
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20041221/ap_on_re_mi_ea/us_iraq&cid=540&ncid=1480

WASHINGTON - The White House acknowledged Tuesday that a devastating attack at a U.S. military base in Iraq (news - web sites) pointed to "ongoing security" issues but said Iraqis shouldn't feel unsafe voting in next month's elections.

<snip>

White House spokesman Scott McClellan, responding to a question as to how Iraqis will be able to go to some 9,000 polling places on Jan. 30 if U.S. troops can't secure their own bases from attacks, said there was "security and peace" in 15 of 18 provinces in Iraq.

"There are tough challenges that remain ... but we are making important progress on the ground," McClellan said. "We also have to keep in mind that the terrorists and Saddam loyalists have adapted and changed their tactics. We adapt and change with that as well to meet those ongoing security challenges."

McClellan added: "We are determined to help them move forward on elections, because moving forward on the political process, as well as moving forward on the security front and the reconstruction front, will help defeat those who want to turn back to the past."

1. If I were an Iraqi, and someone puts up a sign that says "Vote Here"
I would get as far away from the sign as possible.

4. and no mention of the dead and wounded?
Why should they bother their beautiful minds with such horror as twenty or so of our dead troops? They must have gotten their talking points from the old battleaxe.

It is an opportunity, instead, to push their PR and lying propaganda that the election in Iraq will FINALLY prove the great and stupid "war president" freed the Iraqi people and brought democracy to the country. Then we will have WON the war! That is what they will stick with, repeat over and over, and that is what the airheaded supporters of "our president" will believe.

7. McClellan is scary
I'm surprised he even takes questions. All he does is rattle off non-answer talking points.

13. "15 of 18 provinces...secure", so if it were the USA, 41 states would be
'safe'...how nice. But it's even worse since the 3 that aren't secure and peaceful represent most of the population. MORANS!

14. Everything's fine. We're making progress. We're determined.
We're gonna' defeat and kill anyone who gets in our way, right or wrong. Anyone who objects to our war, our wage of mass destruction, our occupation and our control over a sovereign nation is a terrorist or loyalist or evil-doer.

Everything's fine. We're making progress. We're determined.

17. What Ongoing Issues?
Gee, could it be that iraqis prefer to lead their own destiny, instead of having "freedom" forced on them by a culturally ignorant Shrub admin.?
