Zogby National Poll finds Americans want Alaska un-drilled
WASHINGTON, Dec. 21 /U.S. Newswire/ -- A new national poll released today finds that a solid majority of Americans from all walks of life oppose allowing oil companies to drill in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska. The poll, conducted by Zogby International, found that 55 percent of Americans oppose drilling, while only 38 percent want to allow drilling in the Refuge, a natural treasure which has been off limits to drilling and other industrial development since it was set aside by President Eisenhower in 1960.

Q: Do you think oil companies should be allowed to drill for oil in America's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge?

Allow drilling: 38 percent

Do not allow drilling: 55 percent

Not sure: 7 percent

<snip>

The poll also found that the overwhelming majority of Americans favor greater investments in improving fuel efficiency and developing clean, renewable sources of energy over drilling for more oil in protected public lands in the U.S.

2. Unfortunately, the poll that mattered was on November 3rd.
They should've not voted for Bush, then they wouldn't have the Arctic drilled.

4. They should have voted, period
These polls are ALL Americans. ALL Americans didn't vote. The wealthy voted disproportionately and voted for Bush. So Americans don't vote, then feel disenfranchised when the government isn't doing what they think it should. Maybe it's true; if you don't vote, don't complain.

21. Non-voters
The first referral to the "OTHER MILLIONS" that I have seen. It's like they don't exist. Just because we did bother to register and vote (this time) doesn't mean there aren't others who do care. Many of us may fall back into that group since "its all decided anyway".
That is of course considering we will ever again have an election at all.

12. Yup!
and Alaska went red! I'm not for giving such a huge amount to only the natives of Alaska though, believe all natives should have a share of every barrel taken out of the earth in any US state! It was theirs to begin with!
I could go for all our reserves if it would get our nose (and troops) out of the MI. Let them starve for a while and they will go right back to killing their own for a trinket as they have for centuries!

35. Approval = 30%, Mandate = 31%, > 31% = God Told me to Do it
I think this administration goes more by "do we have enough support to get away with it" than "do people want this".

If they can get 3 out of 10 they know Fox News will take care of the rest. Herding the ignorants in line to garner the rest of the support needed.

5. That's funny! As if the Imperial Subjects of Amerika had ANYTHING to say
in what the Imperial Family and it's Minions do!

That's pretty fucking funny.

Imperial Subjects of Amerika, if you wanted to live in the Free World you should have tried harder to keep your country in that family of nations.

Get bent, idiots. Now shut up and take what Der Fuhrer is dishing out.

11. Except for the native groups who will be affected
They don't want drilling because it will negatively affect their only source of food, the Porcupine caribou herd.

That includes native groups in Canada who will also be affected.

That the lower 48 are responsible for most of global warming and refuses to sign, to try to help end that. Besides all the trucks, SUVs,and such, there are lot of private and government limos (at6-8mi/gal)running around every day.

16. Even more evidence the election was frigged
A majority don't support drilling in Alaska.
A majority don't support the war.

Conclusion - A majority would NOT have voted for Bu$h
The election was frigged.

22. .....52% of Americans want Rumsfeld fired, 65% of Americans
thought junior was a poor choice for "Man of the Year" by Time magazine.

The point is Rumsfeld is still serving in the Cabinet and junior will proudly wear his "Man of the Year" award while Barbara cheers wildly.

26. Tough noogies, folks. Next time, don't vote for the polluters...
...and if they do steal the election, show up for the protests. Figure it out people, it's not too difficult.

And as hard as I am on the Democrats in congress, it's unreasonable to expect them to filibuster everything that comes down the pipe, so to speak. This isn't a battle the Senate Dems can fight anymore. From here on out, it's all about protecting basic civil rights and keeping shitheads like Gonzales off the supreme court.

31. I hate to hear that about the songbirds. It seems birds all over
the world are having problems right now. I hate that. I love cardinals. I live in the South. I have been hearing that people in the Arctic and in Alaska are speaking out lately about the unusually warm weather and the melting that is happening. Have you heard this? What does it look like there? I have never been to Alaska. I have only seen it in pictures. It's beautiful. I also hear stories about people there who WANT drilling? Say it ain't so. What on Earth are they thinking? Wait, don't tell me, $$$$$$$$$$ Is it true that people there want the drilling? How long have they been there? Surely not long.

32. The oil companies have already made statements to claim
the oil is substandard...higher refinery costs will require the ANWR oil to be exported to the more profitable Asian market.

The admin is pedaling this plan as a fix for high gasoline prices.

We all know that shitbag in charge will try to take this away from us shortly. We need to be ready to mobilize to Alaska and physically block any such activities. I will not let this most wonderful and sacred ground be bastardized.

34. There was another poll about 2 weeks ago that
asked the question something like this:

To help reduce imports of oil from foreign countries; do you think we should allow drilling for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife region?

In this poll, 60% said yes.

Its all in how you ask the question.
