New Pardons Raise Bush's Total to 31
President Bush granted four pardons yesterday, bringing to 31 the total of pardons and sentence commutations he has issued during his first term, the Justice Department announced.

The clemency orders issued by Bush are far off the pace of most modern presidents and less than half the 77 granted by his father, President George H.W. Bush, according to statistics collected by the University of Pittsburgh's law school.

Bush pardoned Kristan Diane Bullock Akins of Raleigh, N.C., convicted of embezzlement by a bank employee; Ronald William Cauley, East Providence, R.I., misapplication of bank funds by an employee; Stephen Davis Simmons, Austin, possession of counterfeit obligations; and Roger Charles Weber, Northridge, Calif., theft from interstate shipment.

1. Wouldn't it just be easier to kill all prisoners?
If you could get rid of appeals and just kill all sinners, we'd save a lot of money!

2. I wonder what Bush* got in campaign contributions from their
family members to get those pardons? These are bank employees, probably in good positions if they were able to embezzle, so I figure they have connected families.

4. What is it with Bushites
and embezzlers, fraudsters and the like? Remember King George the First and BCCI? Neil Bush and Silverado? Kenny-boy Lay? Ahmed Chalabi?

I guess the Bush Bible is missing the part where Christ threw the money changers from His Daddy's temple, the only people to whom He showed anger.

Do you have any question, whatsoever, about,...WHO the Bush family serves?

Look,...if you are peering beyond the BFEE,...you are outside a box that is controlling your country.

6. Setting up Ken Lay's pardon: 3 banking violations on this list...
several on the last one.

The one thing KL will ABSOLUTELY be convicted for is lying to the banks on his (HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE) loan apps--a big Federal no-no. The Houston legal community was SHOCKED that these counts were part of the indictment--because they will stick and showed that someone meant business.

There have been many pardons for Bank fraud coming outta Bush. Mark my words. Setting the groundwwork

9. *moron has pardoned as many criminals
as he has wildlife and declining species ... i suspect he will pardon more criminals.

"With government scientists pressured to abandon the native plants and
wildlife they were charged to defend, the outlook is distressing for
America's national forests. Along with this general assault on the land,
the Bush administration is also not ensuring additional protection for
declining species. It hasn't listed a single endangered species for
protection from timber sales or other habitat-destroying actions, such as
ski areas and hydropower dams, except under court order, court settlement
or citizen petition, bringing the administration's total to a mere 31
species.
Bill Clinton listed 521 species; Ronald Reagan listed 253."

13. All white collar crimes again
Embezzlement, fraud, etc. Pardoning Ken Lay will eventually be called a continuation of an established trend - no big deal.
