U.S. remembers homeless who died
HONOLULU. Hawaii (AP) -- Tim Cook has been robbed eight times, beaten up five times and suffered four staph infections in two years. That's when he went from home remodeler to homeless.

"It's been utter, complete despair," said Cook, 50. "You're completely at the mercy of other people."

Five of Cook's friends have died homeless, including one who had a stroke two weeks ago. Their stories and cries, though, are rarely heard.

It is a shame that USA has so many homeless people

1. We need a "National Homeless Persons Memorial Day"
in every state.

4. I am listening to Lynn Cullen's show and
she must be on vacation because there is some guy (haven't heard his name yet) who is about to talk to the person that started the memorial day for homeless idea. He is about to bash her too! Tune in if you can, link on top of the main forum page.

He had just said how disqusted he was because we only have one memorial day. I can't believe my ears!

6. I understand what is happening there now --
They have changed Lynn's air time to noon instead of 10. This is Neil Boortz. Glad I am not loosing my mind.

Anyway, he is bashing "Stephanie" who championed the idea.

2. if we have to 'liberate' someone,
why can't it be our own homeless? Think of the money that has been poured into the destruction of Iraq-I would think that those funds could have been use to build homeless shelters here and pay for counselors and therapists for mentally ill people, many of whom are homeless, and to pay for a rational health care system in this country.

3. That's because the mean republicans think homeless people are
not humans.

There are more than 3.5 million homeless Americans nationwide.

What a SHAME!

USA = home of homeless

8. it's dangerous to be homeless
Eevery winter in cities like Boston, homeless people freeze to death sleeping outside.

Homeless women, who are often mentally ill, have a high rate of being raped.

Homelessness is a tough life. People are people, deserving of compassion and respect, no matter where they may be in life right now.

9. memorial day for dead homeless?
Not to rain on anybody's parade, but shouldn't they/we remember them when they're still alive?
It is a crying shame so many are homeless! They need help when they are still with us and not just at Christmas time.
We had two come through the ER last night with minor injuries;they were patched up and send on their way. Most shelters are full this time of the year. And it's not just single men/women,families are homeless, too.
There are thousands of children homeless everyday in this country! They don't need a memorial day! They need real help!

10. Is this the christmas sob story that's somehow supposed to convince
me that we are a loving and caring nation. Tell it to the christian coalition. This should be front page news for them. Opportunity knocks! I know some homeless, they voted for that piece of garbage and now they reap the benefits...eating more garbage. You too will get the opportunity to know what garbage tastes like, if you don't already.
God save the homeless! Your people won't.

12. This homeless problem should be solved by government
But the government doesn't seem to be care when it sees tens of thousands of poor citizens be thrown out on the street year after year.

And Republicans (that's the government now we are having) didn't think so either. they also believe that homeless people only eat two meals a year - one in thanksgiving and one in Christmas - the two holidays when they show off their "compassions"!
