Ex-Giuliani aides yanked into Kerik tangle
BY DAN JANISON
STAFF WRITER

December 22, 2004,

Two more former aides of Mayor Rudolph Giuliani have been yanked into the spotlight created by the Bernard Kerik scandal -- both involving a company under criminal probe that hired Kerik's brother and Kerik's one-time close friend.

One of the ex-aides is Ray Casey, a former city investigator who now heads the Off-Track Betting Corp. in the Bloomberg administration.

Casey is a Giuliani cousin but he and his supporters have deemed that irrelevant to the job he does, especially since he was an investigator during the Dinkins administration.

In October 2000, Giuliani put Casey in charge of the Trade Waste Commission. In e-mails Kerik sent to then-friend Larry Ray, who was working for Interstate Industrial, the company being probed, Kerik hinted that information from Casey could help Industrial clear its name of a mob stain, the Daily News reported Monday.

"Rudy's nephew (sic) in the Tradewaste has been appointed from inspector general to deputy commissioner of investigations," Kerik reportedly wrote. "That's how he's aware of everything going on. He's overseeing all of the investigations."

7. ixnay on the all caps, Jim
and welcome to DU.

FWIW, my belief is they knew all about Kerik and just assumed that he'd get by like all the other crooks and miscreants have gotten by.

17. Welcome to DU jimfromthebronx10469!
Glad to have you here :hi:

I believe that this crooked mal-administration doesn't give a fig about truth, dignity, honor or this country.

I'm also certain that somewhere in the bowels of this WH there is a sign that says "Welcome all crooks, liars and other miscreants".

5. Yes, but he is actively under investigation.
Would have made the Senate confirmation hearing tough.

But Bush is sorry he couldn't have Kerik. Just proves what Bush wanted in office.

9. I am convinced that's what this is about
Rove is doing his long knife thing on the left wing of the reptilian ... er ..... republican party. There is simply no way they didn't know all this shit about Kerik beforehand. They weighed the risk to Chimpus Khan against the damage the outing of Kerik would cause when the light got shone on him and decided it was worth it.

Next up ...... Hagel ... just watch. I don't know how, who or where, but he's done.

Then they'll try to get Frist a personality transplant and in same way (make-up? new hair style? contact lenses?) try to make him look physically less reptilian and try to prop him up and appear appealing enough to get the nod for 08.

10. No way
Frist is not going to be the contender in 08. First of all, there is nothing they can do to the guy to make him physically appealing. He's very wealthy, and he doesn't have that fake down-home appeal that Bush apparently does.

Plus, he killed cats.

13. I think we ALL over-estimate Rove. We've "spun" his influence
to God-like proportions. I for one, don't want to grant him that "power." Sure, he's been shrewd on a some things; but like most criminals, he's not infallible. So the more he tries to control...the more mistakes he'll make...'til eventually he meets his "Waterloo."

If he were only as omnipresent as we all assume and imagine.

14. I agree. This is just politics as usual
Rudy and Bush had a deal to put Kerik in. Kerik was of course going to use Rudy's firm as a consultant to Homeland Security.

Rudy and Bush have been getting away with awful things for a long time now. Kerik wouldn't be any different.

But they got caught red-handed.
