Three to Stand Trial in Soldier's Shooting
A judge on Wednesday ordered a soldier, his wife and her cousin to stand trial in an alleged plot to keep the enlisted man out of Iraq by shooting him in the leg.

Prosecutors said Army Spc. Marquise J. Roberts; his wife, Donna Roberts; and her cousin, Roland Fuller, had originally planned to find someone else to undertake the shooting but decided to do it themselves when they got no takers.

Marquise Roberts, 23, a supply specialist who had spent seven months in Iraq, was distraught about having to return to combat duty and wanted to stay with his family, authorities said.

Scott Schweiger, an attorney for Donna Roberts, said the three simply wanted to keep their family together. "Their intentions were good," Schweiger said. "The judgment was horrible."

1. I wonder how they can
press charges on the three when obviously the soldier does not want to press charges. :)

I mean, if I tell someone to shoot me and don't want to press charges...who is bringing the charge against them for me???

3. The State can bring the charges against them. Apparently it is
illegal to shoot another person even with his/her permission. Kinda like assisted suicide being illegal even if the individual requests the assistance.
