Patdown Procedures Modified for Women
Guardian

Thursday December 23, 2004 1:47 PM

By SIOBHAN McDONOUGH

Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) - In response to numerous complaints from women, the government has ordered airport security personnel to avoid touching female passengers between their breasts when performing patdowns.

Security screeners now will keep their hands to the ``chest perimeter'' of women unless detection equipment picks up the possibility that they are hiding explosives between their breasts.

The new method takes into consideration passenger discomfort while remaining steadfast in mitigating risks, said Transportation Security Administration spokesman Mark Hatfield.

The nation's 45,000 screeners are being told to pat down the perimeter of the chest, backsides and abdomen, effective Thursday.

1. Has anyone seen any #s for women patted down compared to men?
Still haven't seen/heard about percentages of men vs women getting this special 'perk' when traveling and I think it might be good to get some facts on who is getting the most pat-downs.

Havocpup is in the air today. She and a co-worker have been devising and rehearsing a response to any overly rambunctious security pat down. Can't wait to hear how her day goes. ;) She has figured if some zealot in search of explosives on her, rather curvey, frame tries to get too full of his own authority, she is gonna embarrass the guy so much he may resign.

Anybody traveling and hearing a young woman yelling at a security employee "HARDER! I SAID: PAT HARDER!" and panting... well, that's possibly my little girl

4. Hooray...Finally someone with the "cojones" to stand up
for themselves.

(the term "cojones" is being used as an illustrative term depicting bravery and moxie...)

Sorry folks...gotta have disclaimers nowadays.

2. Sooner or later some female (or apparent one) suicide bomber

is going to have an explosive in implants.

If you're going to die anyway, why worry it might break or leak eventually and have toxicity.
