Suicide bomb near Baghdad kills nine

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Nine people have been killed and 13 wounded after a suicide bomber rammed a car into an Iraqi forces checkpoint
south of Baghdad, a National Guard officer said by telephone from the scene.

The Guardsman said a suicide attacker drove his vehicle at high speed into the checkpoint, on the northeastern entrance to the town of
Latifiya. Traffic was heavy at the time.

The blast on Wednesday destroyed around five civilian cars.

U.S. Marines in the area said they were looking into a blast that apparently involved a fuel tanker at Mahmudiya. It seemed this referred to the
same incident as Mahmudiya lies just 3 km (two miles) north of Latifiya.

3. Unfortunately no

Soldiers tend to take off their body armor and helmets when they eat. Apparently this is what happened in Mosul. The Bomber wore his bomb vest right into the chow hall went to the largest group of soldiers he could get to and fired the bomb. I suspect he hit a lot of Officers for the Officers would have been eating together with the Civilian contractors. I believe this is why no names or ranks have been given. When I was in the Officers tend to sit at their own table, the NCOs had their own tables and you had the tables for the rest of the personnel. No actual dividers between the Tables just that how soldiers tend to eat.

My point is you had a suicide bomber willing to walk over to an officer and/or Contractors table and let it rip.

As to the Car bomb, Soldiers in the field are wearing their body armor and Helmets AND they have been trained to be about 10-15 feet away from each other SO THAT IF A BOMB GOES OFF THE EFFECT OF THE BOMB HITS VERY FEW SOLDIERS. This is referred to a "dispersal". It minimizes loses. Thus you will have just a few soldiers killed at a check point . Most of the Killed and Wounded will be Civilians waiting to go through the check point, not the soldiers actually Manning the Check Point.
