Letterman tapes Christmas Eve show in Iraq
http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/I/IRAQ_LETTERMAN?SITE=TXSAE&SECTION=US&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT

CAMP TAQADDUM, Iraq (AP) -- It was "The Late Show with David Letterman" - in a city far from home. Letterman and his crew put on a Christmas Eve show for Marines in Iraq on Friday.

Letterman asked the crowd at Camp Taqaddum if there was anyone there "from out of town," the Marines Web site reported. The late-night comedian also joked, "If I wanted to face insurgents, I would've spent Christmas with my relatives."

Letterman was joined by Paul Shaffer, his musical director, and stage manager Biff Henderson. The show included comedian Tom Dreesen and the band Off the Wall. Some band members scrambled for cover when a controlled detonation went off.

1. I love Letterman,
even more so after he refused to stand down after the White House claimed he'd edited in the kid sleeping during one of the Fuhrer's rallies.

6. first Al Franken, now David Letterman
those guys are top notch.

I'd sure like to see one or more of the Republican big mouths put their money where their mouths are and REALLY support the troops.

8. yeah, it's interesting how most all of the celebrities who . . .
travel to Iraq to entertain the troops are those damned libruls that conservatives despise so much . . . haven't seen Dennis Miller or the Oak Ridge Boys over there . . .

9. Dave's terrific
Edited on Fri Dec-24-04 06:10 PM by bajamary
Yes, he was there last Christmas Eve. And it's quite clear he's not fond of W and his gang.

I love those "Moments with GW Bush" with "Hail to the Chief" as an intro. You know Dave can't like W, he's too smart.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone.

Cheers,
Mary

16. During his monologue a few nights ago, he was doing a Robert Blake joke..
and when he got to the punchline, whatever it was, he had a 'parapraxes' aka a 'slip of the tongue' and said 'Bush' when he should have said 'Blake'. Something abt killing one's wife. A staff person caught it though, and when he came back on, he noted that he had made an error and actually held up the 'prompter' card showing that the written joke said 'Blake' not 'Bush'. He then said he had no interest in getting a slew of emails condemning him for the error lol. Oh, that unconscious mind!

18. Alas, no Chicago broadcast
Edited on Sat Dec-25-04 12:02 AM by bajamary
Drat, there's no Letterman broadcast tonight in Chicago, as the local CBS station has a Christmas service on instead.

Well, at least I know Dave and gang spent Christmas Eve with our amazing troops, thanks to the DU forum.

Happy Holidays.

Cheers,
Mary

19. Hats off to this patriot, this national treasure.
Christmas Eve in Iraq. Even though I'm sure he thinks it was the least he could do, it's still fantastic. Yet another milestone in the man's unique legacy.

25. When I read this
I was so touched that these people would give up their time, especially now, to care about these soldiers. They could have just written a check. Not only that, but their families had to be supportive of them to allow them to go. I think that when the repugs start in on moral values and the liberals lack of them, it is time to stand up and say that is bullshit. Liberals quietly do wonderful things for others, day in and day out. Just cuz they don't do them in front of a news camera or praise themselves so everyone will know, doesn't mean that liberals lack morals and values.

CAMP TAQADDUM, Iraq (Dec. 25) - David Letterman brought his late-night show to Marines serving in Iraq on Friday, loosening up the Camp Taqaddum crowd with the line, "Anybody here from out of town?''

Letterman brought along musical director Paul Shaffer, stage manager Biff Henderson, comedian Tom Dreesen and the band Off the Wall.

Letterman: Live From Iraq

When hands flew in the air in response to requests for a volunteer to help deliver the opening monologue, he asked: "Isn't that how you got here?''
