Three Iraqis killed, two wounded in car bomb attack near Najaf

"Three Iraqis were killed and two wounded in the blast," said Yusif Zahi, a doctor at a clinic in Khan al-Nus, north of Najaf.


He said the attack took place at about 3:00 pm (1200 GMT) in the path of a US military convoy, which escaped unscathed.

The US military was not immediately available for comment.

Earlier, Najaf police chief Ghalib al-Jazairi said the attack killed one and wounded four and also said it had targeted a US military convoy.

"The attack appears to have been aimed at a US military convoy but a civilian car may have been hit instead," he said
