Conservative Students Target Liberal Profs

Sat Dec 25,12:22 PM ET U.S. National - AP

By JUSTIN POPE, AP Education Writer

Traditionally, clashes over academic freedom have pitted politicians or administrators against instructors who wanted to express their opinions and teach as they saw fit. But increasingly, it is students who are invoking academic freedom, claiming biased professors are violating their right to a classroom free from indoctrination.

For example, at the University of North Carolina, three incoming freshmen sued over a reading assignment they said offended their Christian beliefs.

In Colorado and Indiana, a national conservative group publicized student allegations of left-wing bias by professors. Faculty received hate mail and were pictured in mock "wanted" posters; at least one college said teacher received a death threat.

I just hope these conservatives making death threats get arrested!!!

1. So what exactly would a "conservative" education be, outside
of being a brainwashed christian fundie preacher?

4. It would be a lot of blaming the poor for being lazy...
... calling Islam a fraud that endorses killing innocents, blaming womens lib the root of lesbianism, creationism is a viable theory not a myth, the world is only 4000 years old, dinosaurs didn't exist, etc.

Conservatism is the antithesis of knowledge.

6. It would have professors reassuring students that they
already know everything they need to know about everything, and that whenever someone claims they want to challenge their beliefs, they really want to offend them.

I think some groups or people must be putting these kids up to such nonsense. Otherwise, why should they bother to go to college if its only purpose is vindication instead of pursuing knowledge and truth?

Oh, I get it. They need the degree as a piece of paper to say they occupied a chair for four years. Send them to dictation class at Katherine Gibbs; it's a lot cheaper if word processors won't offend them.

10. Fascists and egomaniacal dictators
always target the intellectuals. They are the ones that pose a threat to them because they can actually think and don't blindly follow like lemmings. What a bunch of feckin' p.o.s.'s.

11. At first, in Nazi Germany it was
one or two students making fun of the professor. then there came the "hijinks" and pranks. then......... well we know what happened then.

bullying tactics, fear, intimidation, fundamentalism, fascism, nazism, death.

12. I think this is happening at my very liberal seminary.
Conservative students are enrolling and then complaining that their beliefs are not affirmed or tolerated. Meanwhile, I don't see the conservative seminary that's literally 2 miles down the road bending over backward to embrace or even accommodate liberal theologies.

This other seminary has a statement of faith that must be signed to graduate. My seminary, which is "open and affirming" to GBLT, women, and progressive people of faith, is striving to be open to everyone regardless of belief in an attempt to include everyone.

The impulse to be inclusive is nobly motivated, but in the end, I feel like it's the DLC all over again. Moving right to try to please everyone will eventually only serve to piss off your left wing base. What was that old saying about having such an open mind your brain falls out? Why do we on the left do this to ourselves?

13. It never ends...
I just graduated from a Christian university in Indiana, honestly a really good school that I will probably return to to get a masters. Anywho, the same complaints fly about even my lovely Christian school. My father complains that he spent money to help put me through this school where the liberal professors brainwashed me...granted, I lean a little to the left (obviously or I wouldn't be posting here:-) But what it comes down to is that ANYTHING someone doesn't agree with or that challenges one's thinking gets the "liberal" label. It's so frustrating. I mean, what other option do I have? Go to school in a nunnery? Geez. Also something for the DU community to remember though...I went to a Christian school and came out even more "liberal," with the support of most of my professors:-) I was in the minority among students, but praise God for the profs!

16. The point of getting an education
is to be exposed to different ideas. If you're just going to insist on having the worldview you grew up with reinforced, then there's no point in going to school. God, these people need to get lives.

17. One thing conservatives cannot tolerate is different ideas.

Thats what this BS is all about. You say anything conttrary to conservative dogma than your an evil Liberal out to brainwash people. The ironic thing about this is if there is any group that is trying to brainwash people, it is conservatives.
