http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=worldNews&storyID=7182684

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A roadside bomb killed a U.S. soldier and wounded another when their patrol was attacked north of Baghdad overnight, the U.S. military said on Monday.

The attack occurred in the town of Samarra, about 100 km (60 miles) north of Baghdad, the military said in a statement. No further details were given.

U.S. commanders have estimated that as many as 30 percent of military deaths and injuries are caused by the devices.

At least 1,316 U.S. troops have been killed in action in Iraq since the beginning of last year's war to oust Saddam Hussein. Over the same period, nearly 10,000 have been wounded.

2. An unwelcome addition to the military lexicon:
IED.

Now, what about that armor, Squinty?

3. Armor won't help against the IED
They simply make the device "LARGER"

Rather than a 100 KG charge---they make it 1000 KG or 1500 KG. That will do a job on an Abrams Tank.
