Officer released from brig for 'scrounging' (6 Months in Brig)
http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/12/27/soldiers.scrounging.ap/index.html

A former Ohio Army Reserve commander who was court-martialed for taking abandoned Army vehicles in Kuwait so her unit could carry out its mission in Iraq returned home Monday after serving a six-month sentence.

Maj. Cathy Kaus defended the actions taken by herself and her fellow soldiers. She said she has applied for clemency.

"What we did, we did at that time because we thought we needed to do that," Kaus said at Dayton International Airport, adding that she would do it "all over again" if put in the same circumstances.

It's AWOL, Cheney, and Rummy and their cast of PNAC'ers who should've been in the brig! :grr:

1. It's the cynic in me---
that thinks that by salvaging abandoned vehicles and stripping them of parts so that their vehicles could run, this commander and her unit were actively interfering in a money-making scheme by civilian contractors.

I just get that feeling--they took someone's grift away.

3. Then I'm also a cynic; It's the "Monsanto-principle"
You shall not save,
You shall not recycle,
You shall buy,
Again,
And again,
And again,
And again,
And again,
And again,
...

4. You are probably right.

And it highlighted the criminal incompetence of the brass and Rumsmelled and Junior for putting them in such dire straits that she had to resort to this in order for her unit to simply minimally function. Yes, both ends of the military industrial complex were shamed by her actions which cast a spotlight on them they did not want. She deserves a medal and those decisionmakers that are responsible for these people being in these straits deserve the brig.

2. You are so right on!
It's AWOL, Cheney, and Rummy and their cast of PNAC'ers who should've been in the brig! :grr:

She was being smart and resourceful, making do with Rummy's the 'army' they have.

5. I've done it many times myself....

though never under such dire circumstances...I've never spelled it but we called it comshalking...sometimes it would be under the table barter...sometimes just outright theft...but if something needed to be done we would get the material to do it one way or another...it is a time honored military tradition that will land you in the brig if you get caught...witness mchale's navy or sgt bilko...they were popular becouse wwII era vets "recognized" these military "types" and had a great deal of affection or them.

7. Sounds like a classic case
of going to war with the army you HAVE, not the army you WANT.

8. This lady and Martha Stewart are what's wrong with this country.
Lying about stealing your own money and stealing lost and abandon equipment to save your soldiers lives are two of most despicable crimes. Post these two ladies pictures side by side and you will see the face of greed and evil.
