DAVENPORT, Iowa Court records show bankers are foreclosing on the Clarion Hotel in downtown Davenport.

A receiver is appointed to look after the 135-room hotel as the foreclosure moves forward. Mutual Bank of Harvey, Illinois will sell the hotel at an auction to satisfy outstanding debts. The hotel closed November 12th.The hotel's manager had said closing was necessary because of a banking problem expected to be resolved in a matter of days.

1. That place has never made money

I live here in Davenport and it has had a number of different names. Years ago, when it was the Clayton House, it may have made a few dollars, but since the Interstate passes on the edge of town, the downtown hotels aren't doing well at all, with the possible exception of the Raddisson.
edited for lousy typing

2. What's it look like? Is it an old landmark or what?
I like old brick buildings, maybe I could do something with it.

3. No it isn't a landmark at all
It sits at the foot of the Government bridge and it looks sort of 50s'ish as I think thats about the time it was built. At one time, it may have had a decent view of the Mississippi River, but there are other buildings in the way. Quite frankly, where the hotel is located is no longer a real nice part of town. Now if you're interested in old landmark hotels, the Blackhawk is a couple of blocks down the street and was once a great and grand hotel. It's still open, but nowhere near the bustlinmg place it once was. It is currently owned by the Rhythym City Casino here in town and they want to build another hotel closer to the river, which is creating controversy, but that's another story entirely.
