Six Navy SEALs, wives sue AP over photos
Edited on Tue Dec-28-04 11:37 PM by Javaman
Edit: Sorry, duplicate

Pictures appeared to depict abuse of Iraq prisoners

LOS ANGELES - Six Navy SEALs and the wives of two of them sued The Associated Press and a reporter on Tuesday for publishing photos taken from a Web site that appeared to show the troops abusing prisoners in Iraq.

The suit, filed in San Diego Superior Court, said the pictures did not depict abuse and instead put the lives of the soldiers at risk by exposing their faces to the world.

“We believe AP’s use of the photos and the manner in which they were obtained were entirely lawful and proper,” said Associated Press attorney Dave Tomlin, who is representing the news agency and reporter Seth Hettena.

The plaintiffs are identified only as “Six Navy SEALs and Two Jane Does,” and the suit indicates they have been allowed to file anonymously by court order.

1. Now they get to remain anonymous?
They posted their own photographs on the web.

Again, it seems the photographs are the problem, not the torture.

4. They should have super-imposed Shrub's face over all the
troop's pictures. He is where the buck truly stops at. I am not saying the troops didn't err in their acts, but it came from up above as well. If you lead a soldier to believe that conduct is ok, especially when they are working incredibly long hours in heat and in precarious conditions, they will do whatever. This does not justify the troops action, but this Abu Ghraib deal is SO HUGE. What I see, being a former troop myself, is a Commander in Chief who has commanded human rights violations. And this is what our European allies see.

The Iraqi people see that the only ones getting punished for these actions are the peeons. And the peeons will continue to get punished for this by attacks and bombings. Until the people truly responsible for the action take some sort of goddamn responsiblity instead of pawning it off as the actions of a few rogue troops (despite memos stating the opposite), our troops will continue to pay, and our status as world leaders will contiunue to decline because our leadership lacks character.

Kennedy took responsibility for the Bay of Pigs, which was contrived before he came into office, and was mainly a brianchild of the CIA. There was truly faulty intelligence there, and he could have pawned it off, but he didn't. Bush couldn't take responsibility for taking a shit even though it has his DNA.
