Bush: Nations form Asian relief coalition
CRAWFORD, Texas (AP) — President Bush announced Wednesday the United States, India, Australia and Japan have formed an international coalition to coordinate worldwide relief and reconstruction efforts for the Asian region ravaged by a deadly earthquake and tsunamis.

"We will prevail over this destruction," Bush said from his Texas ranch in his first comments on the disaster Sunday that so far has killed more than 76,000.

Bush said the disaster had "brought loss and grief to the world that is beyond our comprehension" and he pledged a multifaceted response from the United States that goes far beyond the $35 million initially pledged.

In the short-term, the help will including damage assessment teams and U.S. military manpower, including a Marine expeditionary force followed by long-term rebuilding assistance. He said he'd also examine a suggestion from Germany's president to consider putting a moratorium on the debt of hard-hit Somalia and Indonesia.

3. Prevail as in profit from, no doubt. Rebuilding contracts, etc.
He got pretty animated when he started talking about rebuilding the infrastructure. His pupils started dilating into little dollar signs.

11. co`a LISH`un
*said with goofy smile while hunching over slightly; one of several four syllable words he is familiar with and has spoken in public without physical injury to himself.

def. 1 -Being only one of a group, Bush doesn't actually have to take the fall for catastrophic successes, nor does he have to play-act being a leader of anything, which hurts his head and accelerates the nap schedule.

CNN never asks the necessary questions of our "leaders" or criticizes the president. I gave up on them long ago!

18. Prevail? How?
"'We will prevail over this destruction,' Bush said from his Texas ranch in his first comments on the disaster Sunday that so far has killed more than 76,000."

Is he going to declare war on natural disasters now?
It's kind of comical that he says this tough-ass statement "from his Texas ranch" while the colossal tragedy is on the other side of the world. What's he going to do? Send a MOAB to teach this disaster a lesson?
In his need to sound "decisive," "tough," "certain" and with "moral clarity" (as the press constantly brands him) he has said one of the lamest things I've ever heard him utter.
I'm sure other world leaders are laughing their collective asses off. The most effective and useful thing he could do right now is get his ass over there and for once show this country in a good light. If he can't be bothered, then he should send a heavyweight from the administration to project the message that we are grieving with these people and that it matters to us as a nation to see such human tragedy.

19. So you wondered how MA GOP Govs rewarded Big Dig head Natsios?
Edited on Wed Dec-29-04 01:05 PM by papau
"First, the U.S. Agency for International Development, which distributes foreign aid, will have to ask for more money, since the initial $35 million aid package drained its emergency relief fund, said Andrew Natsios, the agency's administrator.

``We just spent it,'' Natsios said in an interview Tuesday with The Associated Press. ``We'll be talking to the (White House) budget office ... (about) what to do at this point.''

more... http://www.guardian.co.uk/worldlatest/story/0,1280,-4699935,00.html "

So you wondered how MA GOP Govs rewarded Big Dig head Natsios?

He does pop up in odd places.

and after $15 billion on the big dig that had little cost control or quality control by him on the huge corporation (Bectel) chosen by the GOP,

we find he is down to his last $15 million 2 months into a new fiscal year.

Thank goodness Bush found $20 million to loan to those countries that were hit with the tsunami. I wonder if they will be forced to use the money via a Haliburton contract

sigh .. I know the answer is yes - I just want to pretend that I do not not know - I am trying to think like a reporter for mainstream media.

20. Thank God Bush Is The President
Edited on Wed Dec-29-04 01:07 PM by GiovanniC
I cannot wait until he declares a massive war on tsunamis. He already has the "coalition" for it. And then, he'll go up in a weather balloon with a banner that says, "We Have Prevailed", and declare that major weather events have ended.

Then like eighteen volcanos will all erupt simultaneously.

ON EDIT: What if that panty-waist John Kerry were president? Can you imagine what he would do about this tsunami? He would probably just sit back and throw money at the problem and just surrender to tsunamis around the world instead of smoking out the tsunamis and bringing them to swift justice.

23. Send our troops where they can do some good
Pull them out of Iraq and let them help with search and rescue in Asia.

Lets just see where our priorities really are. We spend 4 billion a month in Iraq. $35 million is nothing in the grand scheme of things.

"We will prevail over this destruction." Just empty words coming from an empty heart.

25. Our FearLess Leader continues to inspire us...
I've gotten into the habit lately of reading transcripts of Chimp's pronouncements--They're fascinating, kind of in the way people can't resist looking a a car wreck on the highway. Today's speech/"press conference" didn't dissapoint. Some gems:

"His vision of the world is where people kill innocent lives in order to affect their behavior and affect their way of living."

Well, I guess if you kill someone (or "kill their life"), you're pretty damn sure to affect their behavior and way of living, aren't you?

"We just got off a conference call with our acting -- not "acting" -- Ambassador Negroponte is not in Baghdad, but Ambassador Jeffrey, his number two man..."

Acting, not acting, not in Baghdad, but someone else...Chimpy must be drinking again.

"so that the relief is -- the next tranche of relief will be spent wisely"

Now, I'm fairly well-educated and I read a lot, but I had NO idea what the word "tranche" means. So I looked it up: "Tranche: One of a set of classes or risk maturities which comprise a multiple-class security, such as a CMO or REMIC."

OK, that explains it. It makes much more sense when I realize that he was really saying "so that the relief is -- the next one of a set of classes or risk maturities which comprise a multiple-class security, such as a CMO or REMIC of relief will be spent wisely."

"I know that our fellow citizens are particularly troubled to learn that many of the deaths were young children..."

You know what, shithead, there are more than a few of us who are pretty fucking troubled to know about the Iraqi children you (yes, you) have killed. Some of us value the lives of all children.

There was lots more hilarity, but I have to stop because my stomach is getting that sinking feeling again.
