Mad Cow Breakthrough
Edited on Wed Dec-29-04 04:26 PM by Brundle_Fly
Breaking news from CBC News Online:
_______________________________________________

Young live cattle from Canada will be allowed across the border into the United States beginning March 7, marking a significant break in the BSE crisis that began 19 months ago. The rule change, which officials with the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced Wednesday, basically recognizes Canada as a 'minimal-risk region' for bovine spongiform encephalopathy.

1. IN other words, US beef is so bad that it doesn't matter
Canadians say that they live with the issue everytime they consider eating beef. They don't worry any more about it than about getting killed in a car accident. Our food supply should be safe and not up to guesswork.

2. Canadian cattle are probably safer than ours anyway -- or at
least as "safe."

4. The only sustainable solution is to STOP killing and eating dead animals..
Seriously...there is no "safe" factory farmed dead carcass.
These poor animals live and die in horrific conditions. If you disagree, I suggest you visit several factory farms and slaughterhouses...and do the research related to heart disease and cancer: if you can still eat a burger afterwards...

This is not intended to upset people...it is intended to raise the bigger question. Greed and addiction, to beef sets up a chain of devastation to the animals, people, the planet and the resources left to feed the world and have any clean water left to drink. Reconsider why you would trust eating something so dangerous, when you can enjoy a non-meat existence and feel better in body and mind?

8. disappointed...
I was hoping that there would be a story about some kind of medical advance in understanding or combatting the illness. Instead, the advance is a trade agreement that will arguably have the effect of increasing an American's chance of developing vCJD.

Sigh. The economic interests of agribusiness always win.

10. You win by Not supporting evil agri-businesses...use your dollars to say:
No!!

Seriously, there are so many delicious alternatives. Go to a health food store, even major grocery stores carry vegetarian foods.
