U.S. Soldiers Kill 25 Insurgents in Iraq

BAGHDAD, Iraq - American troops and warplanes killed at least 25 insurgents as they attacked a U.S. outpost in Mosul with a car bomb and explosives, the military said Thursday. One U.S. soldier died in hospital after the firefight.

The clash occurred late Wednesday after rebels detonated a car bomb near a U.S. outpost in the restive northern Iraqi city. As reinforcements arrived, they came under fire by guerrillas using automatic weapons and rocket-propelled grenades, military spokesman Staff Sgt. Don Dees said.

The Americans then called in an airstrike by warplanes which attacked some 50 insurgents at the Yarmouk traffic circle, Dees said.

"Initial estimates indicate that there were 25 (insurgents) killed," Dees said. Fifteen U.S. soldiers were wounded.

1. I'm so glad that it's so easy to tell an insurgent from an innocent
from an airplan's cockpit. Aren't you?

3. You bet! It's the new electronics
Step 1) Drop bomb on target.

Step 2) Observe area. Anyone no longer moving is an "insurgent". Those still milling about are "civilians". Anyone moving slowly or screaming in pain is the result of a bug in the software and should be shot immediately. Once dead they can join the "insurgents".

4. Contrast/Compare
Witnesses said the first attack was a bomb in a fuel truck
that was detonated at a house in Mosul that has been
occupied by US troops since last
month.

-Notice after the Mosul messhall bombing
we start seeing copycat fuel trucks used as bombs.

Now, imagine someone detonating a fuel tanker
next to your home. Can you imagine surviving
that?

a second human bomb attack targeted a US patrol
responding to the first blast.

_So, you think you would survive the second bomb
-Do you think you would still be sane?

The patrol also had to negotiate several roadside bombs
and when it reached the combat outpost, it came under
attack from around 50 fighters firing assault rifles, mortars
and rocket-propelled grenades.

I like that-had to negotiate-like a ransom was paid
to the IED's not to go off.
