Blair ally warns of Labour splits
Labour's general election campaign risks being undermined by disunity as rivals bid to succeed Tony Blair, one of his closest allies has warned.

Ex-minister Stephen Byers said Mr Blair had fired the "starting gun" on a succession battle by announcing he would stand down after a third term.

Writing in the Independent, he warned of a "dangerous cocktail" of rivalry when the party needed to be united.

Mr Blair made the announcement after having heart surgery in October.
