The Washington PostHouse Democrats launched a wave of televised attacks Friday night against eight Republicans in swing districts, saying their support for the GOP-backed House version of a prescription drug benefit for Medicare ignores seniors' needs.
The ads, a rare media buy this early in the congressional campaign, signal the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee's hopes of converting the recent House vote into partisan gains next year. House Republicans passed their plan to provide drug coverage for senior citizens and disabled citizens by a single vote last month.
The Democrats' targets include several first-term Republicans -- Reps. Mike Rogers (Ala.), Max Burns (Ga.), Steve Pearce (N.M.) and Bob Beauprez (Colo.) -- as well as Reps. E. Clay Shaw Jr. (Fla.), Sam Graves (Mo.), Charles Bass (N.H.) and Heather A. Wilson (N.M.). ---
