"Four of the 18 provinces are places where the terrorists are trying to stop people from voting," Bush said. "And the reason they're trying to stop people from voting is because they understand that democracies stand in the exact opposite to what they believe."

Bush also brushed off criticism from Brent Scowcroft, who was national security adviser in his father's administration, who said the elections may deepen the Iraqi conflict instead of marking a turning point.

Scowcroft said the poll could increase divisions between majority Shi'ites and minority Sunnis who once ruled the country.

Asked his reaction to Scowcroft's comments, Bush said: "Quite the opposite. I think elections will be such a incredibly hopeful experience for the Iraqi people."

3. GOOD NEWS! Only 4 provinces.
Too bad they hold like 70%+ of the population.

11. Like saying that instability and lack of security in CA, PA, NY and IL
is a minor affair.

We have proven that mandates can be had without those 4 'provinces.'

4. I heard an unnamed General quoted a few weeks back say..
that 10 of 18 provinces were no where near ready for elections. Where have I been? When did all of this progress happen amidst the escalating violence? Surprise, chimp* lies again!

5. "Terrorists trying to stop people from voting"...
Kind of like the Republican goon squads in Ohio, right?

The "insurgents" must have been watching American television in November and taking notes.

7. Because they hate democracy - Dim Son is clairvoyant now...
"I want everybody to vote," Bush said when asked if he was worried about Sunni participation. "And I understand that parts of the Sunni area are being targeted by these killers. And their message is, 'If you vote, we'll kill you.' But the real message is that, 'We can't stand democracy."'

6. Why is he readying a Pentagon team to help with the post-election
business? This is different from the set up of the interim gubbermint how?

snip>

He said a Pentagon team was going to Iraq to conduct a review of the U.S. military's entire Iraq policy to prepare for the post-election period, when those elected to Iraq's national assembly will begin writing a constitution, and work to train Iraqi forces that so far have given an uneven performance at best in battle.

8. nevermind the challenges of getting clean water and electricity
this "election" is a joke and why anyone in
political office goes along with the charade
is more evidence we have lost our minds in
this country.

9. I think I live in an alternate reality
When everyone who is not beholden to this man and his ideology says that Iraq is a mess, and that we have serious problems there, and Bush continues to say all is well, and we have lots of hope, freedom is on the march, I think I live in an alternate world. This is so freaky, I cannot believe this.

BTW, I read today that the 4 provinces in which they are having problems with elections hold 42% of the people. Bush does NOT want that number to get out.

12. You do...
You live in the reality of truth and realism. This reality is antithetical to every part of this administration.

Welcome home!

10. What's wrong with those Iraqis?
Don't they know they should vote correctly?:

Ballot issue #1:

Should all oil proceeds proceed directly to those RNC collaborators who sponsor this war, but NEVER with their own offspring, without the slightest whimper from needy Iraqis?

___ Yes
___ Some answer other than yes, vote here and press discard ballot to shredder button.

17. Is he sure it isn't Ohio, Fla., New Mexico and Nevada??
He really is a dipshit. Everytime I look at this ignorant, pompous ass I cannot believe that he is our leader. The other thing that gets me is that all of his minions take what he says as the truth -- they never question anything he or his administration says.

The elections in Iraq, if possible, are going to be more fucked up than the elections in the US. But Georgie will make them right.

18. When asked what it would be like to have his head cut off
the man said, "Oh I think it will be an incredibly delightful experience."

Seriously, guys, let's just stop here for a second. I have to have a little break for sanity.

Do you ever read the news and just think you are living in a TOTAL BIZARRO WORLD?

Seriously, do you? And everytime you think it cannot POSSIBLY get more bizarro, OOOPS, there it goes again, getting even MORE bizarro than it was before?

Do you ever laugh maniacally instead of shaking your head nowdays?

When I read that article, I had to resist the urge to dance and skip around the room singing "incredibly hopeful experience!"

I don't know if I'm losing it or bush is.

19. SNARF! What a visual - dancing and skipping around the room
singing "incredibly hopeful experience".

Thanks, I needed yet another good chuckle for the day. The news certainly has been full of "bizarro" tales lately - especially today. I'm afraid I can't tell you if it's you or BeezleBush that's "losing it" though.
