(Indiana) Depot workers find 20 gallons of VX
http://www.indystar.com/articles/6/212392-6086-103.html

Associated Press
January 26, 2005

NEWPORT, Ind. -- Workers dismantling a plant where the deadly VX nerve agent was manufactured in the 1960s stumbled onto a tank last week filled with 20 gallons of the chemical, Army officials said.

None of the workers who found the tank Jan. 19 was exposed, and no VX was released, said Lt. Col. Scott Kimmell, commander of the Newport Chemical Depot.

... The VX, which has the consistency of mineral oil, was transferred into an approved container and moved to concrete bunkers at the depot, where 1,269 tons of VX are stored.

They tell everyone where to get 1,296 tons plus 20 gallons of the stuff.

4. Finally, They Found WMD?
Too bad it didn't happen before the election, when it would have helped poor Mr. Bush regain his credibility.

Oops -

Dang, never thoughta that one! They should have used this for that;

US finds evidence of WMD at last - buried in a field in Maryland

The good news for the Pentagon yesterday was that its investigators had finally unearthed evidence of weapons of mass destruction, including 100 vials of anthrax and other dangerous bacteria.

The bad news was that the stash was found, not in Iraq, but fewer than 50 miles from Washington, near Fort Detrick in the Maryland countryside.

5. So what happens when a terrorist trys to blow up 1,269 tons of VX?
What kind of mess would that make? Is that enough VX to kill off the entire planet, or just Newport, Indiana?

Edited on Wed Jan-26-05 05:28 AM by eleonora
I live in IN right now and knowing there's 1.269 tons of VX near by is shall we say, unnerving.

Now terrorists know where to go to find it, huh?

So, what country is going to go pre-emptive on us once we start bombing the world?
