Teen sex increased after abstinence program
Texas study finds little impact on sexual behavior

HOUSTON - Abstinence-only sex education programs, a major plank in President George W. Bush’s education plan, have had no impact on teenagers’ behavior in his home state of Texas, according to a new study.

Despite taking courses emphasizing abstinence-only themes, teenagers in 29 high schools became increasingly sexually active, mirroring the overall state trends, according to the study conducted by researchers at Texas A&M University.

The federal government is expected to spend about $130 million to fund programs advocating abstinence in 2005, despite a lack of evidence that they work, Pruitt said.

2. That's what happens
Edited on Fri Feb-04-05 03:15 PM by DoYouEverWonder
when you put a bunch of horny teens in a room and you don't tell them the truth about sex and how to take care of themselves.

One more reason why it is unlikely that abortion will ever be outlawed.

5. "Abstinance" makes sex a curious mystery. Give 'em the "facts",...
Edited on Fri Feb-04-05 03:39 PM by Just Me
,...in UNemotional terms about how it works and all the possible outcomes,...then, sex is no longer something all curious teenagers feel more compelled to explore.

Damn!!! Sometimes, I think these "abstinence-only" proponents/advocates are so obsessed with their own sins and unresolved emotionally-obsessed fatigue with sex,...that they have completely suppressed their experience of being a teen.

We need to talk about their attitudes about sex. We need to ask them why sex shouldn't be treated just like the food we put in our bodies. If we want to be healthy, we do what it takes to BRING health to our bodies.
