Bush Asks Congress for New Tax Cuts
WASHINGTON - President Bush (news - web sites) proposed new tax cuts Monday for health care, savings and charitable giving, while asking Congress to preserve temporary tax reductions already enacted.

The budget blueprint submitted to lawmakers would reduce money flowing from taxpayers to the federal government by $1.4 trillion over a decade. It includes not only new tax cuts, but also proposals to simplify some tax laws and stem tax evasion.

The single biggest change — making the tax cuts passed during Bush's first term permanent reductions — would cost $1.1 trillion. Those laws reduced taxes on wages, investment income and inherited estates. The president would also extend, for a 10-year total of $73 billion, various temporary tax breaks for businesses.

The budget does not include any proposal to address the alternative minimum tax, a levy aimed at wealthy individuals that has started to hit some middle-class families. The president has commissioned a panel to report this summer on ways to simplify and improve the nation's tax laws.

1. Straight from the Grover Norquist playbook
Run up government expeditures and debt while simultaneously enacting wholly irresponsible tax cuts, until you are ultimately able to force the country into a grave fiscal crisis, which will in turn force the government to dismantle the welfare state. Sigh.

9. It won't work. It'll destroy the country and kill off the GOP's corporate
welfare, in addition to the American tax/consumer base.

2. Since...
Dubya is planning on stealing millions of people's retirement benefits, I guess he can afford another tax cut.

4. Yep. It's taxpayer-subsidized health care for the wealthy.
At the same time our veterans and aged are getting screwed on doubling health care costs.

6. no social safety net
By the time this nightmare is all over, there will be no social safety net for anyone.

Scenario: worsening infrastructure; blighted neighborhoods; escalating crime rate; more teens and children in gangs; no healthcare for many; no decent retirement for most people....

But hey, ain't America the best darn country in the world!!?

7. Why would they care?
They are millionaires and can live in any damned country they wish.

Our representatives killed America when they accepted their first corporate payoff.

Do you think they're stupid? They aren't stupid... just unethical criminals. That's our government in action. We can't sue them so screw us.

Congress will pass that moron's budget in some similar form as he submitted. They aren't poor so screw the poor.

Maybe when Americans are starving and dead in the streets... they'll come up with some sort of program (like soylent green) to eat the poor.

Sorry for the rant but I hate them all.
