DC closed again Friday; evacuations ordered in Fairfax
Federal Workers Get Four-day Weekend
Updated: Thursday, Sep. 18, 2003 - 8:04 PM EDT.

WASHINGTON -- Due to "overriding concerns of safety and security of employees, and in light of the disruptions of power and major transportation systems in the Washington area," the Federal Government will be closed for the second straight day.
Susan Bryant, deputy director of communications with the OPM, tells WTOP only essential personnel should report.

Mandatory Evacuations Ordered in Fairfax

A mandatory evacuation has been ordered in a low-lying area of Fairfax County. Police are going door-to-door in the Belle View and New Alexandria sections of southern Fairfax County to urge people to stay in a temporary shelter.
