Bush budget scraps 9,790 border patrol agents
Washington -- The law signed by President Bush less than two months ago to add thousands of border patrol agents along the U.S.-Mexico border has crashed into the reality of Bush's austere federal budget proposal, officials said Tuesday.

Officially approved by Bush on Dec. 17 after extensive bickering in Congress, the National Intelligence Reform Act included the requirement to add 10,000 border patrol agents in the five years beginning with 2006. Roughly 80 percent of the agents were to patrol the southern U.S. border from Texas to California, along which thousands of people cross into the United States illegally every year.

But Bush's proposed 2006 budget, revealed Monday, funds only 210 new border agents.

The shrunken increase reflects the lack of money for an army of border guards and the capacity to train them, officials said.

2. i guess this means we can't even raise the issue of our northern border...
....lotta wilderness up there for anybody to cross if they can hack hiking the forest and paddling across some water.

Interesting....Roseau County wanted some new radio system & boosted power so some lonely sheriff's deputy could call for reinforcements if he/she happened to be out in the countryside and found a division of Osama's brigades crossing Lake of the Woods. The answer was no.

3. Oh hell, let's just build a wall
If Israel can do it then it must be a good idea...right?

On a related note, anyone know the status of Bush**'s inspired immigration plan -- the one where illegal workers will be given all sorts of prizes for making it across the border and finding a job before they're caught?

5. The "Real" conservatives are infuriated at W
They realize that without immigration control we have no safety, heavy indigent costs, and a pool of low income workers to drive down wages for U.S. citizens.

Bush is once again giving into big business and world corporatism. He wants to be King of the planet with little interest for the working class of America.

36. a pool of low income workers to drive down wages for U.S. citizens
Is it fair that companies are allowed, even encouraged, to move anywhere they wish in the world to find the lowest possible wage earners but, workers face guns and even death to get to go to a job that can give them a decent living?
America ought to be spreading the right to join a real Union so workers can get a raise in their standard of living. Only when wages and standards of living improve in the rest of the world will people be able to stay home and live as they should.

6. This is the budget of a madman...
Edited on Thu Feb-10-05 12:33 AM by TwoSparkles
...truly, has the man lost his marbles?

He's not even trying to hide his mental defects, anymore.

My guess is that * had lied and lied and lied so many times--that he feels there's no point in lying any more.

He can't come out and say, "Look people. The War on Terrorism is a public-relations, fear-generating ploy that allows me to parlay your fear into accepting my every move. First, I needed to go into Iraq--so I rode the wave of 9/11 terror into the sands of Baghdad. I don't care about your safety, but I want you to feel unsafe. That's how I get things done!"

His policies and budget clearly demonstrate that he doesn't expect any additional terror attacks. Either that or he wants another terror attack. We don't inspect incoming cargo. Thousands pour across our border daily. Our nuclear and chemical plants are not secure. Funding was just cut for cops, fireman and border agents.

He's not even hiding his sick, twisted, very-bizarre agenda.

The unraveling of * has begun. He's not even pretending to give a rip about this country.

I think * COULD come out and say those exact words -- and do that wheezing little laugh he does -- and the Koolaid Kult would still cheer, throw him their money and call him God's son.

Scary shit indeed.

If they would have listened to us instead of to Bushitler and the rest of the right wing bullshitters...we wouldn't be in this mess.

We would have a sane, well spoken, intelligent man as our President instead of a crazy, bumbling, dipshit psychopath.

IMPEACH!!!!

18. one thing that is not often mentioned
about the illegals from latin america crossing the border: Recent reports indicate that catholic fundamentalism in southern states is growing at incredible rate - a ready made market for the fundie politicos. And those raised south of the border don't worry too much about small details like corrupt leaders - they're used to it.

26. When you have so many workers...
Happy to be working for minimum wage or below it, then there is no reason to raise minimum wage. Incomes for the lower and middle classes are affected by an over abundance of cheap labor, but the upper class loves to pay next to nothing for cheap labor. The upper class can keep more and make more money with cheap labor.

That is the single most important reason why BushCo and his Banana Republic of Amerika will NEVER do anything about Third World workers replacing American workers here in the Banana Republic of Amerika (formerly known as the United States of America).

31. Iraq too
One of Viceroy Bremer's first acts in Iraq was to fire the Iraqi border patrol.
This left dozens of border crossings wide open.
This administration would rather endanger American lives than meet a payroll.
