Microsoft still dominates with Windows, U.S. admits
Bloomberg News Thursday, February 10, 2005
Microsoft's 2001 antitrust settlement with the Bush administration has not reduced the dominance of the company's Windows personal computer operating system, a U.S. Justice Department lawyer said Wednesday.
.
There has been "no demonstrable change in the operating system marketplace," the government lawyer, Renata Hesse, said in Washington in response to a question from the federal judge overseeing the accord. "Microsoft continues to have a large share in that market."
.
The 2001 agreement resolved a suit that at one point threatened the world's largest software maker with a breakup.
.
At the time the accord was announced, rival companies including Time Warner and Sun Microsystems said it would not do enough to loosen Microsoft's grip on the computer software business.

Ya antitrust was to stop this!!!

on a certain industry? Who also, btw, own a huge stake in at least one major media outlet (MS-NBC) from which they can, and do, use to pummel their foes from.

5. Fan of the Penguin here
As the avitar shows, Linux is my choice. I broke WinDoz one too many times and converted to something more reliable. And OpenOffice.org is a great office package.

6. SuSE, now Novell desktop
I have been a SuSE (now owned by Novell) user from the late 90's, after IBM dropped OS/2 support for individuals. However, I am not some computer expert, most windows users I know work on their computers more than I do, I grew tired of that many years ago. I just use mine now and I use the GUI almost all the time, very seldom do anything to the system. Heck I don't even shut it down properly some times, in a hurry, or just forget, love that journaling file system!

8. I don't tinker much
Now that the GUIs are so good I rarely use a shell unless I have to. I rarely turn my computer off and have had no problems. It just perks along happily...couldn't do that with M$. :) happy penguinsta
