Kerik records back in spotlight
Newly released Correction Department records show that an unusual number of officers from an elite jail unit were on "stand-by" on Nov. 1, 1998, the day of then-Commissioner Bernard Kerik's wedding.

But as with earlier documents released after Freedom of Information Law requests, there is no clear explanation of what justified the extra staff.

The charge from some department personnel has been that either a team of Emergency Response Unit officers were paid by the city to attend the nuptials or their absence from duty forced overtime in the jails.

(snip)

There is a discrepancy between an executive report from that day noting 16 staffers receiving overtime and filings made later showing more than 30.

No explanation was immediately available.

4. Kerik should not go away until he has been prosecuted.
