Democrats plan hearings on deliberate overbilling, fraud in Iraq contracts

Whistleblowers include prominent former Coalition Provisional Authority staff

The following announcement, along with details of several whistleblowers who have abetted firms overbilling the United States in Iraq, is slated to be released today.

The hearing is scheduled for Feb. 14 and will be led by Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-SD). The hearings are held by the Democratic Policy Committee (DPC), which is composed of senators from the Democratic caucus and does not have subpoena power. The meeting will be held from 10:00 a.m. - noon in room 628 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building.

Democrats are keeping the whistleblowers’ names tightly under wraps, hoping to ensure that no one will get cold feet. But they expect the hearings to make quite a splash; two of those speaking are former officials of the Iraqi interim government, led by Paul Bremer.
