AMA Head Likens Gays To Coca Cola Or Rape

(White Plains, New York) The president of the American Medical Association has come to the defense of New York Medical College under attack for banning a gay students group from campus.

In an interview with the Westchester Journal News AMA President John Nelson said as a private institution the college has the right to set and enforce its own policies.

Nelson then said that the school was acting no differently than Brigham Young University in banning Coca-Cola from campus or its suspending of four athletes accused of raping a 17-year-old girl.

He told the Journal News that doctors should treat gays "with dignity, with respect and with absolute confidentiality" and said the AMA would be concerned if New York Medical College were graduating students "with clinical biases that might affect the way they practice medicine."

But the fact that he sent his own kids to BYU does tell you something about his beliefs. He denies he's speaking as a Mormon, or making moral judgements of gays, but I don't find him the slightest bit convincing. I hope he gets a lot of flack for this!

I had a conversation recently with the docs that authored the AMA guidelines on Impairment and disability. One of the docs told me doctors who treat the disabled were creating more disabilities by virtue of the manner in which they treat disability..I asked him why then would the AMA take such an aggressive position on tort reform if they hold a position that doctors are so injurious...it was fun watching him stutter in front of the room :-)

What a hypocrite! He should be out there lambasting the shrub administration for proposing cuts to the FDA's safety inspection budget while people die from taking drugs which shouldn't have been approved in the first place.

the FDA takes in MORE money from the DRUG COMPANIES themselves to approve their drugs! Incredible as it seems, it is true. They all now pay the FDA for approval. Now I feel safe. Glad I don't take many drugs!
