[Wellington] Webb takes job [DNC Vice-Chairman]
Former mayor gets top Democrat post

By Owen S. Good, Rocky Mountain News
September 20, 2003

Former Mayor Wellington E. Webb told a gathering of about 150 well-wishers Friday he will accept a vice chairmanship in the Democratic National Committee next month.

Webb said he will formally accept the post Oct. 2. He was the guest of honor at an event celebrating his three terms as mayor, which ended in July.

The position is senior enough in the national Democratic Party that he can write his own job description, Webb said.

"It's for me to help to define it," Webb said while signing autographs after the event. "Two parts, obviously, will be raising money for the party and doing some organizing around the country."

2. He's a good guy with a lot of political experience
I wish he were taking McAuliffe's job!

He could bring back disaffected African Americans to the party

He's no fireball but he gets the job done. Good call!

3. Given that McAuliffe probably had something to do with his
being there, maybe Terry is seeing the light!

5. Don't know much
But he was pretty popular as mayor of Denver. Also, he was the first African-American elected to that post.

4. I know Webb ins't a WASP, but
He has the WASPiest name I've ever heard. All he needs is a III at the end.

8. I have mixed feelings about Webb
He served as mayor for 12 years. Early on I liked him a lot, but eventually grew to dislike the job he was doing as mayor. Toward the end of his term he became just another shill for the developers and real estate community in Denver.

He personally appointed a zoning commitee board that was the biggest pack of whores for the development community I've ever seen. He talked a good line, though.

If he came to me asking for money, I'd be inclined to say no. But he will do a good job of getting out the minority vote.
