China Criticizes Unified U.S.-Japanese Stance on Taiwan Issue

Feb. 21 (Bloomberg) -- China criticized a joint statement by the U.S. and Japan declaring the peaceful resolution of China's dispute with Taiwan as a strategic objective.

``Irresponsible remarks'' related to China's national security are ``untenable,'' Foreign Ministry spokesman Kong Quan said in a statement posted on the ministry's Web site last night. The Chinese government opposes the U.S.-Japanese statement as an infringement of the nation's sovereignty and territorial integrity, the statement said.

Japanese Foreign Minister Nobutaka Machimura and Defense Minister Yoshinori Ohno issued a statement with U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld on Feb. 19 after the four met in Washington. The declaration listed ``the peaceful resolution of issues concerning the Taiwan Strait'' among a series of ``common strategic objectives'' for the region.

1. All China has to do is say--
"Taiwan represents a security risk--it could have WMD"

Then they take over.

2. Taiwan might even just be thinking about possessing WMDs?
That was good enough for Bush in Iraq.

3. China -- eh, screw 'em.
This is actually a rare departure from the * Administration's usual kissing up to the Chinese government. Standing up to China can't possibly make Bush's base happy. Conservatives love cheap, oppressed labor and it doesn't get much cheaper or more oppressed than in China.

Watch out for falling prices!

4. Isn't that where we get the 'adult toys' from?
That gives a new meaning to 'the magic rocket'... :wow:
