UN: Afghanistan Could Become Terror Haven
UN: Afghanistan Could Become Terror Haven

By STEPHEN GRAHAM, Associated Press Writer

KABUL, Afghanistan - Three years after the fall of the Taliban, Afghanistan remains the world's sixth-least developed country, the United Nations said Monday, warning that a nation that became a haven for international terrorists could fail again unless more is done to improve the lives of its long-suffering citizens.
........
Moreover, most of the country's income is being mopped up by warlords with strong political and military connections, creating a dangerous gap between rich and poor and between the cities and the countryside. Half of all Afghans are poor, it said.
.........
"Our team found the overwhelming majority of people hold a sense of pessimism and fear that reconstruction is bypassing them," said Daud Saba, one of the report's authors.
..........
It also described reconstruction projects sponsored by the U.S. military as "inadequate and dangerous," echoing concern from some relief groups that they have blurred the lines between soldiers and civilians, and made aid workers into militant targets.

1. No, DUH!

Another moral lesson that the dumbest president in history doesn't get - When you consort with criminals to accomplish your goals (and are a criminal yourself), you get criminal results.

2. Just imagine what would happen if Bush attacks Iran.
Both Iraq and Afghanistan would have a plethora of new volunteers looking to attack the American invaders.

I hope our resident warmonger is paying attention. He's failed at every attempt he's made to date. He should stop now before his record is even worse.

5. "Afghans Give Opium To Frozen Kids"
Disease fueled by freezing weather has killed more than 120 Afghan children, with desperate parents feeding their children opium in a bid to alleviate their suffering, the health minister said Saturday.

A total of 128 children have died of ailments including pneumonia, measles and whooping cough, Mohammed Amin Fatemi told The Associated Press. He had no figures for cold-related deaths including adults.

"Many parents are giving opium to the children in the belief it will stop the coughing," Fatemi said. "Maybe for two or three hours it will sedate them, but it is poison for their bodies and can turn them into addicts."

~snip~

Some have died in accidents and avalanches, while former refugees even in the capital have apparently frozen to death in makeshift camps, also exposing a lack of shelter and health care despite three years of international aid.

I have to give him credit - Bush is doing great job of spreading "American" democracy. The military-industrial complex is reaping record profits as the people go without basic necessities, all while fueling a culture of hate.

7. WTF, "Could Become Terror Haven"
It has been in the past and will be in the future. With a little help by the CIA-Narcoheads... Nothing has changed, there is no freedom on the march. We, ups, they failed... Like the Russians before...
