Venezuela Sees U.S. 'Dirty War,' But Says Oil Safe
CARACAS, Venezuela (Reuters) - Venezuela complained on Monday that Washington was waging a "dirty war" of propaganda to discredit President Hugo Chavez, but said it has no plans to cut vital oil supplies to the United States.

Venezuela's Information Minister Andres Izarra accused U.S. officials and some media of working to isolate left-winger Chavez in the international community.
...
Izarra said Foreign Minister Ali Rodriguez would travel to the United States this week to present Venezuela's case before the Organization of American States.

He singled out the Washington Post, Fox News and the Miami Herald as among the media outlets he said were part of a U.S. campaign against Chavez.

Izarra also named several reporters who he suggested were receiving funds from the U.S. government, but said he had no evidence to support this.

3. FUX Noooz Propaganda
From venezuelanalysis.com

...He accused the U.S. government of preparing the terrain for a possible intervention in Venezuela. "As anyone who studies the behavior of the U.S. empire during the last century discovers a common factor; every time the U.S. are going to attack someone, they don’t do it right away, they start by preparing the terrain of their internal public opinion, one of the things that worries them the most. Look at the example of Iraq; there was a campaign against Saddam Hussein, accusing him of having chemical weapons, accusing him of being a menace, by presenting evidence that resulted to be false, to justify the aggression. That way, when the launch the attack, they obtain the support of a big part of their internal public opinion. Almost all media in the country support them... they look for allies in Europe, from the U.N., they start preparing the terrain, and their current aggression are part of this campaign."

U.S. right-leaning news network Fox News, recently ran a series titled "The Iron Fist of Hugo Chavez," in which Chavez is portrayed as a dictator who uses violence to stay in power, and invests the country’s oil revenue in weapons, instead of helping the poor.U.S. media frequently refer to Chavez as a "strong-man," in spite of his multiple electoral victories certified by foreign observers.

Chavez went on to enumerate recent comments by U.S. officials characterizing him as a menace, which he and other officials describe as an intervention in the internal affairs of Venezuela. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs Roger Noriega, Deputy Secretary of State Robert Zoellick, Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Marc Grossman, Florida Governor Jeb Bush, and CIA director Porter Goss, have made public statements criticizing Chavez.

He said U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is trying to personalize the conflict. "They do not address the Venezuelan government, but just Hugo Chavez, in order to personalize the conflict. She said that Hugo Chavez is a threat for the continent, for democracy and for peace," Chavez added.

4. Washington Post? More likely they meant the Washington Times...
Yung Sun Moon's DC rag has been promulgating anti-Chavez propaganda since his popular ascendency. The Post has it's share of media whores, as well, but nothing at the level of the Times.

6. The WP has written highly critical editorials
LAST SUNDAY hundreds of heavily armed Venezuelan troops invaded one of the country's largest and most productive cattle ranches, launching what President Hugo Chavez describes as his "war against the estates." The next day Mr. Chavez signed a decree under which authorities are expected to seize scores of other farms in the coming weeks. This assault on private property is merely the latest step in what has been a rapidly escalating "revolution" by Venezuela's president that is undermining the foundations of democracy and free enterprise in that oil-producing country. The response of Venezuela's democratic neighbors, and the United States, ranges from passivity to tacit encouragement....

Can't wait to see the Post's position on the current US eminent domain case- where small private homes are handed over to corporate developers.

Our sources in Venezuela tell us that sometime in the near future, President Hugo Chavez Frias will switch from oil sales in US$ to *uros. When that move finally takes place, the US$ will be in serious trouble. Ê

The US government ... that is George W. Bush and his criminal cabal ... have tried several times to assassinate President Chavez and twice to overthrow his government. Can you image we have a President that makes it a matter of foreign policy to murder people who head other countries. Ê

Hugo Chavez Frias is the duly-elected President of Venezuela and George W. Bush ... our resident-madman ... has just tried to murder Mr. Chavez again. There is overwhelming evidence of a CIA-backed plan to Òbring down President ChavezÕs airplane during a scheduled flight to the US from Caracas. Ê

Sources in VenezuelaÕs Military Intelligence Directorate (DIM) told VHeadline.com that Òpresented with overwhelming evidence of WashingtonÕs planned attack on the Presidential flight, it was decided that the PresidentÕs personal security was preeminent and that he should not go.Ó Ê

Needless to say, you wonÕt see this reported in the US media. It is disgraceful that our President has our CIA running around murdering anyone they please. This is the third attempt on President ChavezÕ life by US controlled assassins.

Venezuelan Government Charges U.S. Government of “Dirty” Media Campaign

Caracas, February 22, 2005—In a press conference held yesterday, the Venezuelan Minister of Communication and Information, Andrés Izarra, denounced "the false information and groundless accusations" made almost on a daily basis in the United States press as a new media war against the people of Venezuela and their government.

Izarra affirmed that in light of the large influx of erroneous and de-contextualized information, it is evident that the US private media has joined forces with the US Department of State and spokespeople of the Bush administration in an effort to launch a "smear campaign" against the Venezuelan government. According to Izarra, this "smear campaign" has the objective of undermining the mandate of Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez in order to, at the very least, destabilize the country, and at the very worst, set the stage for a military intervention.

"This new assault appears to be oriented towards de-legitimizing the efforts of the Venezuelan people and the Venezuelan government to democratically advance in order to propel changes towards political, economic, and social progress of our country," asserted the Minister.

A common “news” item in the media that Izarra countered was that the Venezuelan government is considering cutting off oil exports to the U.S. "Venezuela is not pursuing nor is it studying any measure to cut the supplies of oil to the United States," Izarra said in response.

Izarra's statements were based on his analysis of the content of information published between January and February of 2005 by The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Times, The Washington Post, The Miami Herald, Los Angeles Times, Sun Sentinel, CNN, Fox News, Financial Times, and Dow Jones Newswires.

14. Much of the corporate media has been Gannonized.
They're lazy ... and legally plagiarize right-wing PR. The GOP PR machine controls the language, from "Social Security reform" to "insurgents" and (everybody is a) "terrorist" to "personal accounts." The very language itself has been hijacked by the fascist right wing. The media gofers merely regurgitate what they're fed.
