Scientists restore charred diary of shuttle crewman (found in TX field)
Edited on Sat Feb-26-05 11:58 AM by Rose Siding
NEW ORLEANS — A small heap of paper that survived the fiery disintegration of space shuttle Columbia, a 38-mile fall to Earth and two months of exposure to rain and sun in a Texas field has been painstakingly restored by forensic scientists, yielding the flight diary and notes of Israeli astronaut Ilan Ramon.

Scientists used computer image-enhancement technology and infrared light to read the charred and tattered pages and fit some of them together like jigsaw-puzzle pieces.

Not everything could be deciphered.

But Sharon Brown, the Israeli police document examiner who put the material together, said she was amazed that the metal-ring cardboard-bound notebook had even survived the Feb. 1, 2003, disaster.

Looks pretty good for surviving the crash of a space ship and two months of TX sun and rain. Amazing.

Did we ever get to see any photos of Atta's passport?

1. I always find stuff like this real eeeerie...
...like the digital photos that were recently released from the dead couple who took the shots of the tsunami coming at them.

3. Middle Eastern paper is simply AMAZING
Especially the stuff they use for IDs.

Suicide bombers are frequently known to strap so much explosive
to their chests
that craters several feet deep are created in the ground,
BUT,
the ID placed on the inside breast pocket of the outer jacket
usually SURVIVES.

Since the hijacker documents came from the same place,
it is no wonder that they remained legible and intact.
