Russia, Iran sign nuclear deal
RUSSIA and Iran signed a key deal today for Russia to supply Iran with nuclear fuel to the Bushehr nuclear plant, Russia's Itar-Tass news agency reported from Bushehr. The deal, which also provides for Iran to return spent nuclear fuel to Russia, had been expected to be signed yesterday but was delayed by 24 hours as talks continued.

Tass said Russia's nuclear energy chief Alexander Rumyantsev and the head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organisation, Gholamreza Aghazadeh, had signed the document at the plant in Iran. "We signed a confidential protocol in which the schedule for delivering fuel to Bushehr is fixed," Tass quoted Mr Rumyantsev as saying.

"Because the protocol is confidential, I can only say that the order and schedule for delivery completely correspond with the technological process of building a station." The deal to supply fuel for Iran's Russian built 1000mW Bushehr nuclear plant was expected to pave the way for the country's only reactor to go on line later this year and reach full capacity in 2006.

6. U.S. won’t attack Iran- Schroeder
In his European tour this week that included a meeting with Schroeder, U.S. President George W. Bush expressed his concern over the U.S. stance towards the Iranian issue, saying that it is “simply ridiculous” to say the U.S. is going to attack Iran, contradicting pervious statement he made, saying that the U.S. wouldn’t rule out the military option to force Iran suspend its nuclear programme.

Despite the fact that Bush has made a similar statement about Iraq during his visit to Germany in May 2002, a high-ranking German officials tend to trust him this time. "We don't see the danger that both sides are talking at cross purposes," said one official who took part in the Schroeder-Bush talks in Mainz.

In an interview with the weekly Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung, Schroeder said: “He (Bush) said the words ‘Iran is not Iraq’ deliberately — no one, and that includes the American government, is thinking of military action against Teheran”. However, Schroeder was quoted by the newspaper as saying that he had made it clear to the American President that Germany won’t back the United States in any possible military action.

and then hope like hell Iran lashes out at the U.S. troops in Iraq. It is in Israel's interest to light the fuse.

Cheney for one is looking forward to "cleaning up the mess." He went on Imus the day of the inauguration and could barely contain his glee as he predicted the future course of events.

welcome to the new cold war kids. One spark is all it will take to ignite a conflagration. Will Israel bomb now or wait until the fuel is delivered so they can make part of Iran uninhabitable for 100 years.

11. Iran and Russia Sign Nuclear Fuel Deal
Iran and Russia Sign Nuclear Fuel Deal

February 27, 2005

BUSHEHR, Iran - Russia and Iran signed a deal Sunday that would deliver nuclear fuel to the Middle East country for the startup of its first reactor - a project the United States had for years pushed Moscow to drop, claiming Iran is trying to build a nuclear bomb.

Iranian Vice President Gholamreza Aghazadeh and Russian Atomic Energy Agency chief Alexander Rumyantsev signed the agreement at the Bushehr nuclear power plant. The signing, which was delayed by a day, came after the two senior officials toured the $800 million complex.

"Today, a very important development occurred, and that was the protocol on returning nuclear fuel, which we signed together. In the next few weeks many Russian technicians will arrive in Bushehr" to finish the plant, Rumyantsev said after the signing.

Both officials refused to discuss the details of shipping the nuclear fuel to Iran and the spent fuel back to Russia, but insisted that the agreement conforms to international nuclear regulations.

17. Everyone is focused on Iran...
There's a reason for that. There's a thread here somewhere that explains that the world's oil deposits may have changed. For years, everyone thought that Saudi Arabia had the world's #1 deposit, and Iraq had #2.

Now, it appears that Saudi Arabia's supply is dwindling. And it actually suggests that if they try to increase the production and suck it out of the ground too fast, then it could turn into a sandy sludge and be worth much less.

Enter Iran. They could have the #1 spot. They also have an unbelievable amount of natural gas.

No wonder everybody has their eye on Iran. And I believe China and Russia both threatened Bush with World War III if he dared to attack. That's why he went pimping in Europe last week.

Not that it did him any good.

<snip>
"Iran and Russia signed a nuclear-fuel agreement on Sunday, paving the way for Iran to get its first reactor up and running."
<snip>
"Russia helped build the Bushehr plant and has agreed to provide the fuel to run it. But it wants the spent fuel returned to prevent any possibility of Tehran's extracting plutonium from it, enough of which could be used to make an atomic bomb. Tehran has agreed, but the two disagreed on who should pay for the return."

22. Hmmm... Is there a defense agreement between Iran and Russia??
Edited on Sun Feb-27-05 02:21 PM by Gman
Has Iran turned to Russia for protection against US aggression in addition to assistance for its nuclear program? I ask this because at the very moment that Bushco are ranting about Iran and nuclear, and Bush and Putin even meet over the issue of Russia's support for Iran's nuclear program this agreement is actually signed. Surely Iran knows what this would mean as far as US aggression goes. Surely Russia knows this will cause more reason for the US to attack Iran, which in any event appears to be a foregone conclusion. After all, Russia lost a ton of money when the US invaded Iraq. Wouldn't they want to protect their investment in Iraq? All the assurances from the US in Iraq weren't worth a warm bucket of spit. So, will Russia step in and assist Iran in its national defense? Would Russia send weapons? Would Russia send troops? Has Putin decided to be the one to stop Bush? Did he tell Bush this when they met? If rhetoric towards Iran moderates and the sabres aren't rattled as loudly, would this be a sign that the US was deterred? Does Bushco have the common sense to allow the US to be deterred rather than follow their madman agenda. What about nuclear deterrence?

At some point some country with the power and ability to do it is going to stand up to Bushco.

Who the fuck knows these days.

23. At this moment, Cheney is
Edited on Sun Feb-27-05 03:40 PM by cliss
going through a thermonuclear meltdown. His light colored hair has turned pure white, and about 200 hairs on his balding head dropped out. His face, usually pasty white, is red from his fragile heart pumping way too much blood out of anger.

Not good to get too upset, Dick.

I believe Dick's plans are coming undone. Cheney and his cabal were most certainly planning to invade Iran this spring. They follow a predictable pattern: first a long media campaign to single out "Bad countries" as a "rogue" state, unwilling to follow agreed-upon terms of conduct. Next, the country is blamed for a series of events which paint them as the Gangster of world politics.

After that, the US invades. We've done it many times, so the pattern is predictable. But in this case, 'Something Happened on the way to The Forum'. Bush got derailed in Europe. Russia is signing a variety of treaties to stop Bush and his cronies from attacking. There are issues of natural gas, and of course Iranian oil.

Notice, they're making this very public, so there is no ambiguity. Russia is stepping up to prevent any conflict in Iran.

It looks like Putin was smart to wait, while the US marched in and took Iraq as its Pawn in the "Oil Chess Game". Experts now believe IRAN is the real Arabian Nights of oil reserves. Right now, there's doubt about about Saudi Arabia's proven reserves. The oil could be dwindling quickly. This makes Iran the #1 oil and natural gas reserve in the world.

Cheney is watching his vast treasure fly away on its little wings. He feels duped. We're stuck in Iraq, spinning our wheels in the mud and getting nowhere, while the REAL treasure is in Iran. We're stuck "Owning a country" like Colon Bowel said.

Now we have to take care of this country, make it into our own little Imperial State, while Puting simply meets with the leaders, pulls out his Pen and signs away. No bloodshed, no world hatred. Just -- negotiation.

Feeling smart, Dick?

39. Russia, Iran sign deal to open nuclear plant
...and Russia is blamed for the poison event over in Yuscheko land ...

Claim safeguards assure power but not weapons
Monday, February 28, 2005

MOSCOW -- Russia and Iran signed agreements yesterday that opened the way for Tehran to start up its first nuclear power plant next year, a step that the Bush administration fears could help the Islamic Republic produce nuclear weapons.

Iran denies any intent to build nuclear bombs, and insists that as a signatory to the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty, it has the right to develop a civilian nuclear energy program. Russia says it accepts Tehran's assurances and a requirement for Iran to return all spent fuel eliminates any possibility of the new reactor being used for military purposes.

Alexander Rumyantsev, head of Russia's Federal Atomic Energy Agency, said after the signing ceremony that Russia complied with International Atomic Energy Agency rules in building the reactor.
