US Sen. McCain: Bar Russia from G8 over Iran nuclear deal
Edited on Sun Feb-27-05 12:00 PM by NNN0LHI
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/N2R119086.htm

WASHINGTON, Feb 27 (Reuters) - The United States should seek to bar Russia from this year's major-nation summit to protest actions by Moscow including its deal on Sunday to provide Iran nuclear fuel, a leading Republican senator said.

"This latest step of the Russians vis-a-vis the Iranians calls for sterner measures to be taken between ourselves and Russia. It has got to, at some point, begin to harm our relations," Sen. John McCain of Arizona said on "Fox News Sunday."

Russia and Iran signed their nuclear-fuel supply deal in defiance of long U.S. opposition and only days after Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President George W. Bush met at a summit in Slovakia. snip

The White House had no immediate comment on the signing of the supply agreement. The United States believes Iran is trying to develop nuclear weapons and is concerned that by supplying Iran with fuel for a Russian-built nuclear reactor, Moscow could aid a weapons program.

civilians. Yes, he is definitely playing to the base and
eyeing the 2008 vote.

17. McCain has been an extremist right wing nut his entire political career
Check his voting record in the senate if you don't believe me. He has been corrupt from the get go too. He should have went to jail for some of his shenanigans. He just hid it pretty good and many fell for his line of bull.

9. Fallout from *'s stellar diplomatic skills...
This is what we get from Putin, when our commando-in-theif takes him into the backroom and wrist-slaps him for not being a good boy.

We get defiance. We get the finger thrown up at us. We get an Iran that has fuel for a Russian-Built nuclear reactor.

Way to go, Einstein!

Next time, why don't we just send Sam Kinnison to yell, scream and hurl obscenities at world leaders? It would save * the trip, and we may get better results.

/sarcasm off

12. Was Bush Depantsed On This One Or What?
Has a bunch of BS photo-ops and "summits" with Pootie on this very issue, and then "Ostrich Legs" turns around and sells nuke fuel to the Iranians anyway.

I guess inferring that Putin was a dictator wasn't as good a negotiating tool as first thought. Looks like Condi might have been using her Stiletto boots on Shrub's brain box.

Been a good month or so for Iran if you think about it. Bush holds a gimmick election in Iraq that results in Iran's very own being empowered, and then the Russians turn give them the nuclear fuel they've been hoping for.

Bush = Impotent

14. which is why he neutered the media
Chimpy's flagrant incompetence begs to be investigated on so many fronts. His European trip served to underscore the results of four years of self-appointed retards dragging the US Constitution through the mire of their own ineptitude. We're now officially 3rd rate in the world's eyes, and they're moving on w/o us.

And rid them of any motivation to play by any set of rules in who they sell nuclear technology to.

That's just 'effing brilliant.

We're on our way down to join the Russians, becoming ever more alike as we meet at the Old Empire Club.

Joe Stalin's down there, one of the old boys by the bar. He's not very well, living on a small pension, but he's still good for a laugh.

Joe, meet George W., he was a fraternity boy, should fit right in.

33. Pink Floyd expresses this very well...
The Fletcher Memorial Home

take all your overgrown infants away somewhere
and build them a home a little place of their own
the fletcher memorial
home for incurable tyrants and kings
and they can appear to themselves every day
on closed circuit t.v.
to make sure they're still real
it's the only connection they feel
"ladies and gentlemen, please welcome reagan and haig
mr. begin and friend mrs. thatcher and paisley
mr. brezhnev and party
the ghost of mccarthy
the memories of nixon
and now adding colour a group of anonymous latin
american meat packing glitterati"
did they expect us to treat them with any respect
they can polish their medals and sharpen their
smiles, and amuse themselves playing games for a while
boom boom, bang bang, lie down you're dead
safe in the permanent gaze of a cold glass eye
with their favourite toys
they'll be good girls and boys
in the fletcher memorial home for colonial
wasters of life and limb
is everyone in?
are you having a nice time?
now the final solution can be applied

36. This One Also Came to Mind
US AND THEM

Us, and them
And after all we're only ordinary men.
Me, and you.
God only knows it's noz what we would choose to do.
Forward he cried from the rear
and the front rank died.
And the general sat and the lines on the map
moved from side to side.
Black and blue
And who knows which is which and who is who.
Up and down.
But in the end it's only round and round.
Haven't you heard it's a battle of words
The poster bearer cried.*
Listen son, said the man with the gun
There's room for you inside.

"I mean, they're not gunna kill ya, so if you give 'em a quick short,
sharp, shock, they won't do it again. Dig it? I mean he get off
lightly, 'cos I would've given him a thrashing - I only hit him once!
It was only a difference of opinion, but really...I mean good manners
don't cost nothing do they, eh?"

Down and out
It can't be helped but there's a lot of it about.
With, without.
And who'll deny it's what the fighting's all about?
Out of the way, it's a busy day
I've got things on my mind.
For the want of the price of tea and a slice
The old man died.

*Somehow, I could have sworn the line here is: "And most of them are lies." That's how I hear it, anyway.

22. Different problem than we currently face
The goal then was to defeat the USSR as a rival hegemonic power, and we did that by engaging them in an arms race.

The current problem is not an arms race. Rather, it's trying to stop a non hegemonic power from exporting nuclear technology, which it has in spades.

The reason for Bushco's foreign policy failures is trying to apply Cold War thinking to a post Cold War world.

34. Why trust the Right?
Look, it's simple reasoning here. Bush met with Putin in a secret meeting. Several days later Putin made a deal with Iran. There is the distinct possibility that Bush secret deals with the Russians were the catalyst.

Why is everyone here taking McCain at face value? Does the RW ever really say what they mean? He's distracting you from the above conclusion by posturing against the Russians. It's an obvious posture as there is absolutely nothing the US can really do to block Russia from the upcoming G8 summit.
