Bird Flu Kills 47th Asian Victim in Vietnam

HANOI (Reuters) - Bird flu has killed a 69-year-old Vietnamese man, the 47th Asian victim of a virus experts fear could unleash a global influenza pandemic capable of wiping out millions of people.

The man was taken to a hospital in the northern province of Thai Binh on Feb. 19 and died last Wednesday, said Pham Van Diu, director of the province's Center of Preventive Medicine.


"We sent samples taken from him to Hanoi for tests and the results confirmed he had bird flu," he told Reuters on Monday.

1. I had the same question about the relationship of the deaths of the

microbiologists and the bird flu. I am not sure if there is a correlation. That question would need to go to someone with more knowledge in the field.

5. Interestingly enough one of the first few "experts" that died early on

was the man known round the world as "Dr. Flu". He lived in Colorado I believe, but I know for sure he died in a plane crash in those first few months shortly after 9/11 when we lost the first 17. If you don't have a primary doc like me, go to a local urgent care place. Their appointments are usually pretty cheap, in the $80-$100 range. Well, cheap compared to the ER. I go to urgent care for bad migraines and get injections of phergan and toradol for about $150, including the meds. The ER would probably be $1500 for the same thing.
