Bush's Plan on Federal Power Price Killed
WASHINGTON -- Northwest lawmakers said Wednesday they have blocked a Bush administration plan to force the Bonneville Power Administration and other federal power suppliers to sell electricity at market rates.

Lawmakers from both parties had complained that the plan could boost energy prices in the region by as much 20 percent and cost Pacific Northwest rate payers $1.3 billion.
...
Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., a member of the Senate Energy Committee, hailed Gregg's announcement, which followed weeks of intense lobbying by Western lawmakers from both parties.

"The Bush rate hike would have a devastating impact on our economy and jobs," said Cantwell, who plans to question Bodman about the plan at an Energy Committee meeting Thursday.

"I will call on the Bush administration to accept the Senate's decision not to increase BPA's rates," Cantwell said in a statement. "I will not rest until the administration's plan is dead and gone."

2. The Bush Rate Hike. The Bush WH Prostitute scandal.
The Bush war based on Bush lies. The Bush failure on 9/11. The sinking Bush economy. The Bush-exacerbated homeless problem. etc. etc. ad nauseum.

6. when did you live in Oregon?
I live in northern Calif. and the rates aren't "CHEAP" here by a longshot. We've been Enroned!

Go back to Oregon and live and tell me exactly how "cheap" it is!

You know the profits won't be going to any "worthy social programs" as none exist in the world of the BFFE. :grr:

8. Well, I live there now.
And I've lived here for almost 14 years, and believe me, people here do attempt to conserve electricity. It isn't cheap. I keep my thermostat at 64 degrees, or less, to conserve.

In fact, a lot of people try to burn wood so they can save on electricity, but the cost of that is going through the roof, too.

What you're saying about Oregon's consumers is baseless.

9. that is how it is here too

hell, almost froze my arse off living in a place where I burned wood for heat. The cost of running the baseboard electricity for heat was so expensive I never ran it.

Also have all energy efficient applicances - power bill is always below the baseline. How many can say that?

I think everyone tries to save on energy here. Gasoline = $2.38 a gallon cheap stuff last I looked. People are taking public transportation as much as they can and oh yeah, btw ... very FEW if any "social programs" left around here that I can see. Plenty of poor people though living on the streets. Some people like this I guess - the sick ones that is. :grr:

I've always thought of my neighbors in Oregon as being very conservation oriented people.

11. Ahh wood heat - I be toasty all year round up here
.
.
.

I rent a 40 acre farm, and can cut all the wood I want

and it's got enough wooded land that cut wisely, will last forever.

My cost for the wood is the gas/oil and my energy to get it, a healthy exercise program

Even at 30 below, I sometimes have to open a window or a door :bounce:

My hydro consumption runs an average of 10-12 kilowatt hours per day - mostly the fridge and this 'puter are responsible for that!

Our rates are 4.7 cents per kWh, and with delivery charges, taxes and so on run that up to about 8 cents per kWh - so I'm under a buck a day for hydro up here!

And Warm! :silly:

12. I live in the NW. (On edit: Aww. 'N you're just another disruptor.)
Edited on Wed Mar-02-05 09:44 PM by HuckleB
People do just as much to conserve energy here as anywhere else in the US. Further, unless you are going to pay to tear down the dams so the northwest can have the fishing industry it once did, there's simply no justification for Bush's scumbag plan to screw the citizens here.

----------

And WTF is with these dopey disruptors? Ugh. Idle hands sure 'nuff do work hard for the devil, don't they? What's the point of such adolescent mindlessness?

and electricity is not cheap. Oregon and Washington are big on conservation of all kinds. What you said is not my experience at all.
