Governor's Agenda Losing Traction
As he uses harsher rhetoric in pushing his proposals to fix the state's problems, Schwarzenegger sees his approval ratings fall.

By Robert Salladay
Times Staff Writer

March 3, 2005

A Field Poll released in late January showed a 10-point drop in Schwarzenegger's approval rating — from 65% in September to 55% now. That is one point lower than former Gov. Gray Davis' rating after his first 10 months in office. And the poll found that 53% believe California is on the wrong track, up from 38% in September.

For his part, Schwarzenegger believes the state's problems are urgent and must be dealt with immediately. He is using harsher rhetoric than last year as he unloads a host of problems all at once for the Legislature to fix.

The plans would alter the power of public employee unions, teachers, hospital nurses, and lawmakers from both parties. His new urgency has alienated many groups that were happy to make deals with him last year.

snip

The loss of support prompted Schwarzenegger to create his own education group this year, paid for with campaign funds. Schwarzenegger's Coalition to Improve Public Schools has reached out to 1,600 school officials asking for their support; only about 200 have come to the governor's side

14. Is that a picture in Arnie's new propaganda piece?
They said something about using taxpayers money to pay for a campaign to smash the law that gives workers (in between the hours they work at the job) a time space, off their employers clock, to eat their lunch.

Yea Arnold, we will pop some steroids, become machines and work our entire shift through without even stopping to take a breath.

Down with stupid governators

CALIFORNIA
'News' Video Extols Gov.'s Plan
# Critics say the state used taxpayer money to promote a proposal to alter meal break rules, which could benefit Schwarzenegger donors.

By Dan Morain, Times Staff Writer

SACRAMENTO — Using taxpayer money, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's administration has sent television stations statewide a mock news story extolling a proposal that would benefit political boosters in the business community by ending mandatory lunch breaks for many hourly workers.

The tape looks like a news report and is narrated by a former television reporter who now works for the state. But unlike an actual news report, it does not provide views critical of the proposed changes. Democrats have denounced it as propaganda. Snippets aired on as many as 18 stations earlier this month, the administration said.

11. Read two accounts and don't know which one is correct
I read that his numbers plummeted because he was now at total odds with the Dems in the Legislature. Today in Time I read that the Nurses Union has taken credit for the 10% drop because they have done an absolutely beautiful job of harrassing him. They work his fondling of women into their protest signs, etc. Remember he said he controlled them or would kick their butts or something to a gathering of women because he said they were just an 'interest' group. Hopefully, CA will drop this sucker. By the way, does he have to run in '06???? or is he there until like '08??? OH OH OH---there was a lead into a story on one of the networks (and I never stayed around to listen): who is the CA heavyweight that is thinking of taking Arnold on for governor next time. Inquiring minds are dying to know......

16. Well Arnold has insulted every working group here in CA.
He pissed off the
Teachers Unions
Police Unions
Fire Unions
Nurses Unions
State employees unions
In home health care workers
the Elderly
the disabled
the poor
the sick
BUT
the rich fat cats love him to death.
he tried to get rid of the
State contractors board....those contractors love to police themselves.
he tried to get rid of the medical board. they also love to admit when they make mistakes.
His newly appointed leaders in the Consumer affairs dept have not written ONE citation since they appointments in the two areas I know of
Barbering and Cosmetology
Cemetery and Funeral
neither has written one citation since the Fox has been guarding the hen house.
How does this protect the consumer?
Big donors are running the ship.

Shocker! State budgets don't respond to cutesy action movie tag lines. And when you start reaching into people's pockets to cover your fiscal mismanagement, some of them actually object.

So Ah-nuld is turning to harsher rhetoric and alienating many groups that were happy to deal with him last year. Let the political edumacation of Musclehead begin . . .

26. our new local activist group wants to initiate RECALL
Locally, we are forming up an activist group and met yesterday to consider what national and state issues to work on. It was suggested having people at supermarket entrances etc, telling people to not sign the petitions for arnold's special election. Someone who appears to be a staffer for one of our local elected representatives said it would be much more effective to launch a recall campaign against arnold. Even if we can't get arnold recalled, it will cost arnold millions of his special-interest contributed dollars, to fight the recall. That lessens his ability to finance the petition signing for his special election and his campaigning for his special election issues.

It's thought there are other such activist groups forming up.

I think she's doing this on her own. When she said there would likely be other groups, I think she was assuming that. It is a good assumption. Everyone there was energized and passionate about the purpose of the group. I anticipate the group will be a success. I don't know yet what they will do with the recall idea but everyone sure liked it!

34. An odd moment that may portend...
...some hope for CA. I delivered some boxes to a CA State Agency the other day. I had to wait for the lady to come down and escort me up, as security is so much tighter post-911. We talked about her department as we went up -- she admitted that she had voted for Arnold, but that she had seen terrible things happening in the CA administration, especially in her department -- it was folded into another agency that has no relevance, and they kept a duplicative management structure that encourages bad politics. She said that things were being done that made it seem like action was being taken, but that just really made things stop working. She said it had become a massive beehive of demoralized inactivity. She's anxious to get another chance to vote against Arnold.

I used to like him when he was just a bodybuilder. Not so much as an actor, and then I found out he was GOP -- gag and vomit and repeat, and I never went to see another movie he made. He's been a terrible experiment in half-baked, intellectually dishonest popularity politics. I hope to hell we can be rescued somehow. I want my state to be DARK BLUE like it should be.
