IRA offer to shoot man's killers
Edited on Tue Mar-08-05 12:17 PM by muriel_volestrangler
on BBC radio news now - will post link when available. The family have rejected it, saying they want them prosecuted.

Well, it's one way of keeping your members in line (the IRA say it was 2 of their members, plus 2 others who killed him).

On edit: link:

The family insist those responsible should be punished through the courts.

The five page statement from the IRA leadership says its representatives have now had two meetings with the McCartney family, one of which lasted five and a half hours.

The IRA say it has given the family the names of the man who stabbed Mr McCartney and a second man who supplied removed and destroyed the murder weapon.

Both these men have been expelled by the IRA.

1. Why not knee-cap them instead ?
That way the ones who got out of line may serve as an example to others.
Why kill them ?

5. I hope you are not being serious
What sort of Ireland do they want ? One where knee capping and killing are acceptable forms of justice ?

What are they ? The Irish Taliban ?

8. Sometimes I can not see a difference between the UDL or the IRA
they have much to account for. No it was bad taste and not funny.
But typically instead of killing someone these groups do other things.
I am just surprised they did not do it already.

6. IRA "prepared to shoot" McCartney killers
The IRA has released a statement saying it was prepared to shoot the killers of Robert McCartney.

In a lengthy statement, the paramilitary group claimed it has met members of the McCartney family and said it would take action against the 33-year-old's murderers.

"The IRA representatives detailed the outcome of the internal disciplinary proceedings thus far and stated in clear terms that the IRA was prepared to shoot the people directly involved in the killing of Robert McCartney," the statement read.

Thats a wonderful way to move forward into the 21st century.

"oh i'm sorry we murdered your husband. How about we murder a few more people and call it a day ?"

Edited on Tue Mar-08-05 05:52 PM by Jack_DeLeon
for criminals who are atleast willing to police thier own in some regards.

I like this quote.
"The IRA keeps making offers that do not constitute natural justice, and it is a real credit to the McCartney sisters that they rejected this outrageous offer,"

IMO our whole society and system of justice is unnatural. Albeit many people especially here support the fact that its unnatural because we arent "supposed" to be like animals.

9. IRA didn't offer to kill...
I don't see anywhere on the BBC where the IRA offered to kill, which seems to be what many of the posters are implying. Also, don't see turning over to the authority of occupiers (who have murder on their hands -- eg, murder of Pat Finucane and also Rosemary Nelson --> http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/northern_ireland/3588031.stm

10. OK, they're prepared to shoot them
and the IRA didn't specify if that was to kill them, or merely wound. The Independent says "The IRA statement did not specify whether the word "shoot" meant to murder or merely wound the four men, but according to a republican source the IRA was prepared to kill them." It's a fairly common assumption that offering to shoot someone means killing them. Admittedly the IRA is one of the few organistaions in the world that does plan punishments by shooting but not killing people, but that is usually described as 'kneecapping'.
