Casey: U.S. troop level in Iraq expected to hold steady for 'next several
http://www.estripes.com/article.asp?section=104&article=27622

U.S. troop levels in Iraq will remain steady at about 135,000 troops for “the next several months,” according to the top U.S. military leader in Iraq.

Once the last of the units held over for Iraqi elections returns home at the end of March, “I don’t necessarily anticipate changing much for the next several months,” Army Gen. George W. Casey Jr., commanding general of the Multi-National Force-Iraq, told Pentagon reporters Tuesday.

“We’re in a good position following the (January) elections, but we have a lot of work ahead to get to our final objective in Iraq,” Casey said.

“We’re actually further along than I thought we’d be at this point,” Casey said. “The level of violence, the level of attacks (against coalition forces), have dropped off significantly.”

In fact, he said, “last week the lowest level (of attacks) since April.”

1. "lowest level of attacks" meaning what? Number, or deadliness?
Seems to me we've had some pretty bad casualties "since April."

I hate these people in charge of our troops' lives.

2. Just look at
www.icasualties.org for the facts. It will also be interesting to see how Bush comes up with more recruits for his warmongering. The kids are buying out big time. Maybe the young republicans will join? As sure as there is a cold day in hell.

4. Memo to Casey: Oh, no you don't. We're leaving, and soon.
The Grand Sistani can get the message quietly and clearly: get your f'ing act together if you want to run this place and, when the Kurds leave in all but name only, leave them the "F" alone! That's about all it takes and we're gone. We can leave them with just a fraction of the gazillions we spend now to rebuild and stay on good terms. Maybe we blow up the military bases also.

Fuck these guys and gals at the Pentagon if they think they can tell me that my country will accept this obligation. Send * and his entire family along with Lynn and Dick Cheney. Lynn would scare the shit out of them. Oh, also, General Boykin, he'd be a good military liaison.

NO WAY, JOSE. WE'RE OUT OF HERE!

5. “We’re in a good position following the (January) elections"
Apparently he isn't up on his facts...American soldiers are being killed at a more and more steady rate since the war began.
