WP: Hughes Is Set to Rejoin White House Staff
So much for her family values.

Her 2002 Return to Texas Surprised Many in D.C.

Karen P. Hughes, the longtime adviser to President Bush often described as the most powerful woman ever to work in the White House, plans to return to Washington soon to rejoin the president's team as he sets forth on an ambitious second-term agenda, according to White House officials and outside Republican advisers.

Seen as a virtual alter ego for Bush who understands how he thinks better than any other adviser, Hughes helped the president build his administration as his counselor in the first term before her surprise resignation in April 2002 to return to Texas with her family. Her forceful presence and physical stature helped cement her position as a key player in any policy decision.

Hughes has continued to advise Bush from her home in Texas, particularly on major speeches and communications strategies, and she traveled with him during the most difficult days of last year's campaign. But now that her son Robert is preparing to head to college this fall, she is ready to return to Washington for more than several days a week to work for the president, although she will not move the family home, according to sources familiar with her plans.

The White House declined to comment on the move, and the advisers who confirmed it refused to be identified because the decision has not been announced. The sources said Hughes will take on a specific and particularly important assignment, but would not identify it except to say it will not be the fight over Bush's embattled Social Security plan, nor will it be a subsidiary project, such as planning for the presidential library.

Edited on Thu Mar-10-05 11:32 PM by w4rma
as they had hoped. The problem is that, so far, she's been able to turn things around for themselves everytime she returns.

Dems need to be more wary, now.

18. They needed to get a heterosexual woman in there fast... because
something's going to break about Gannongate. Chimp needs that "motherly touch." And, his staff needs her so the place looks "semi-normal." Just a hunch. Either that or he's plotting something against womens rights, again.

22. 'They made money when everybody else did & they think they're smart'
That's a line from "The Grifters" (great movie). The long con artist is talking about "big time" Texas oil men who made some real dough when the oil business was booming. They were perfect targets for the "long con" which took lots of their money by playing on their egocentrism.

I wonder if this applies to this woman? She did great when the thugs were on a roll and getting lucky. Wonder if she can do as well now with a neutral playing field.

I didn't know they didn't get along. But,that story about her son needing to get back to Texas so fast because he didn't like DC seemed odd at the time.

21. I wonder if it's PLAME or Gannongate that is going to bite Rove in the a**
As someone above has already mentioned, Rove and Hughes aren't the best of buds....of course, Rove is SOOOO jealous for chimpy anyway, that he probably resents Pickles, as well. Besides, Rove is addicted to power...of all kinds, and doesn't want to compete with anyone.

But, the thing is...geedubya KNOWS there is this animosity, and he's doing it anyway.

O8) I know it's only a prayer and a wish on my part, but I sure wish it meant that Rove was finally going to do the perp walk for the Plame outing. O8) Then, again, it COULD be that Rove is the one who got Gannon into the press pass business, and if/when THAT little piece of information is ever proven or made public, bush would leave little Rover blowing in the wind. Rove has broken all the laws of courts and decency in his life, and if there is one slithering piece of slime in this world that should be taken OUT of polite society, and put away for the good of all, it's Rove.

Hmmm....and his bosses, too, come to think of it. Whew! What a bad nasty bunch of people.

Karen Hughes is just plain dangerous.

27. NEWS FLASH !!.... She never LEFT!!!
She's one of those "retainer" type people..She's been "on the Bush payroll" for years.. Don't forget, these people have M O N E Y !!!

Karen probaby gets a UPS package every few weeks, filled with cash..

She's been "with him" since he was a young'un running for governor..

When they say she's leaving", what they mean is //"She's not officially here, so you cannot question her "
