Abuse accountability hard to come by

WASHINGTON — A new report on the interrogation of prisoners in the war on terrorism prompted senators Thursday to question whether senior civilian and military leaders will be held accountable. snip

Sen. Carl Levin, a Michigan Democrat, said the Defense Department “is not able to assess accountability at senior levels” and called for an independent investigation.

Critics of the inquiries say that the Bush administration and the Pentagon have sidestepped the issue of “command climate.”

Many also ask why investigators have all but ignored the military principle that senior officers are always accountable for their subordinates' actions.

3. Plausible Deniability is the reason why the guys on top don't
want to be associated with the actions taken at the bottom. It's too convenient, and it's corporate thinking. If CEOS were held accountable for the failures of their corporations, they wouldn't be making millions of dollars every year. For some reason, Americans seems to have accepted plausible deniability as normal. May have to do with that crazy concept that we abdicate our votes to the people in authority. The Board takes the power away from the stockholders, the Congress takes the power away from the people.
